I am outraged. Me and my friend (both from Czech Republic) went on Erasmus student exchanges. Me to Ireland, her to Scotland. Now we share trauma because of the grading system. This probably doesn't apply to science studies, I study history, my friend humanistic studies. This is what I've been told about grading:
"The best mark you can get for your essay is like 75%, which would be an A in my eyes”
“why 75%?
“well to get higher, you’d need to be like a super well educated historian and bring something new. If you were doing maths, then yeah, 100% is possible, but in history, everything is debatable and you’re undergrads, so the best I’ve ever given was like 76%”
Why are we marked based on unreachable standards? How does this make sense? As my friend put it, it kinda feels like:
"oh youre pretty. ... for a black woman."
"oh youre smart ... for a woman"
"oh you get a B, your essay was good ... for an undergrad. of course youll never meet real world standards, but dont worry about it baby, your brain just isnt quite there, its okay"
