Posting for a friend who does not have a reddit account.
"My family is sponsoring my husband's sister "Jessica" (F40) from Honduras. She is living with us in our home in the Midwest USA. I didn't know much about her before she immigrated. We found out she cannot read at all, maybe not past a first grade level. She has a work visa and has found a decent paying job working in a factory here, and absolutely must stay employed for her to legally remain with us indefinitely and get a green card, etc.
She also does not speak English. I am working on my Spanish but it's been tough. She was able to enroll in a free local English class for relatives of public school students."
I am hoping to tap the resources in this awesome community for my friend. Can you recommend books, apps, websites, workbooks, video courses, literally anything that is engaging for an adult to learn to read? Also for a Spanish speaking adult to use? I will share your ideas with my friend.
A lot of the resources we find are too childish.
