A teacher says a website that ends with ".org" means the source is reliable. Is it rare this kind of lack of common sense?

Hi all,

My relative's daughter, who studies in a middle school in US, says "a website that ends with ".org" means the source is reliable" because her teacher told her so. She believed it and see website ends with ".org" as a reliable source.

If this is true, that teacher seriously lack common sense, and making this kind of claims to students is actually dangerous. The fact is, everyone can buy a ".org" domain by less than 10 USD.

My question is: Is this teacher the exception in US education system? Should this teacher be sent to some improvement plans?
