Hello, hoping someone here has some ideas. My sister was supposed to graduate in 2004, although she had to do summer school courses to get enough credits. The school said that she finished everything, and though she did not walk with her class, they did give her the physical diploma when they said she was finished.
When applying to a new job last year, the employer informed her that she was listed in the state system as a non-grad (likely found through a background check). They accepted her diploma as proof, but she's been fighting with the school about it now. They claim she is missing an English 11 credit, although according to her transcript she did complete English 12 - which how could she take that if she didn't pass the Eng 11 class? The summer school does not keep records (not sure how that's legal) and they state they just send them to the school. Not sure if it's relevant, but our old high school was torn down and replaced years ago, so that may be how records were lost.
The assistant superintendent is basically saying their hands are tied, but if they lost records, that is not my sister's responsibility. They stated non-grad diploma's are kept in a safe in the office, but my sister has hers. They also state they typically hold a board meeting for grads that are approved to receive the diploma off cycle, and she's not on any of them. She's 38 going on 39, I'm not sure how to get this resolved. We're in Central OH and this was a public school, does anyone have any ideas? I found a news story of a similar case that happened up in Toledo, but there was nothing about how they were able to resolve it, if they ever did.
