What are some of the classroom management theories which you find most valuable?
Hey guys, I'm just wondering what classroom management theories have you read up on and then actually tried to apply to your classroom?
I'm particularly interested in dealing with highly emotional students (maybe due to issues at home), or students who may have slight learning difficulties (enough to pose a problem in the classroom, but still able to mostly function on a social level).
I've currently been looking into Rudolf Dreikurs who seems to have a fantastic framework, but I'm very interested in learning some opposing views on this, and maybe pro's and con's to certain theories as well.
Looking forward to hearing what you guys have to say!

Business administration and ICT college course
Hopefully it's okay to post this here. Just wanted to start a discussion about these types of courses, starting with telling you my situation and then hopefully hearing a little feedback, or other peoples similar experiences or situations.
I'm 25, two kids and getting married soon. Left school with basic grades to join the military. That didn't work out long term so I've been working minimum wage up until now. I decided recently to apply for college and to try something totally different, and hopefully use what I consider my best skills that I never had the maturity or patience to hone when I was younger. Communication skills and IT skills were my best grades in school. I'm hoping that beginning a career path in business, admin, IT etc will open many doors for me and that one day I might have a reputable job where I can earn just a little more than the pennies I currently do. The course I've been accepted on to is SCQF level 5/6, which is a little bit like the same level of academics as maybe, I donno, being in high school around the age of 16/17? We've all got to start somewhere.
Advice to kids still in school: don't quit school until you've explored all options. There f**k all out here in the real world if you don't have the qualifications to back you up. Also, learn to drive while you still live with your parents, and you have the money. This had become more of a rant/lecture as I have gone further into the post 😂

Has anyone come across longitudinal studies on learning disabilities?
I've only found some that survey what former students are up to but nothing on retesting them.
Do learning disabilities become less of a disability as school progresses?
Are their studies on best practices for aiding each type of disability?
We drop an insane amount of budget on SpEd but don't have a clue as to if our methods work or if cognitive issues are a function of brain development. I read a stat that SpEd kids can cost 2-3x what a regular ed kid cost.
Are we helping or hurting?
Anecdotally, I see no improvement in upper grades. SpEd kids are way behind and there's a learned helplessness about them. Many have dropped out - but have not physically left.

Do online schools check IPs for cheating?
I'm trying to help my mom with her assignments. She's doing the work, but she wants me to log in and submit the stuff because she's not good at computer things and putting stuff into Word with the right formatting and whatnot. I'm concerned it might look like cheating though since I'm in LA and she's in Nebraska. If they check IP logs, they'd see her account being accessed from two different locations, sometimes simultaneously.
Do you think that would be an issue?

Hey guys, Just wanted to throw this out there and see what kind of responses I get and also see if there are any theories that may spark my interest.
I'm personally interested in Vygotsky and his theory of the ZPD, and I also think Dewy's ideas are very applicable to the classroom. I'm wondering if anyone has any other theorist that they'd recommend (and why?) Thanks for any input in this!

Support for a Nepalese school in Sipaghat, Nepal.
My girlfriend is one of the most caring people I've ever met. She went to Nepal as a volunteer and stayed for around 4 months working at a village school and clinic essentially trying to teach kids, and locals in general, anything about health and education she could. After the earthquake in in April of 2015 she raised several thousand dollars to assist the village in purchasing temporary building materials and miscellaneous items for basic health and food. Both of us traveled there in August of 2015 to bring cash, clothes, toys, and educational material. She has accepted this challenge of assisting the people there will be a life long endeavor, formed by the love she has for them. If you have any desire to donate anything, she has a website and PayPal set up to directly assist the school or clinic.

Why Schools Preferred to Be Built Near Train and/or Bus Stations
I live in New York for the past 17 years. The house is a few blocks from an intermediate school and a parochial school. Even thought the intermediate school is three blocks from the nearest train station, the school is next to a bus line. Now that there is an offshoot of the intermediate school, the LaGuardia Airport-bound bus stand is relocated to the corner with a co-op.
The elementary school I attended is next to a bus line. A few years ago, there was a casualty of a student at the school, the Flushing-bound bus stand was be relocated at the corner of a used car dealer. Before the bus stand is in front of the Toyota dealer.
The college I currently attend is near a subway station, and close to a dozen bus lines.

How Do/Would YOU Get Parents/Communities Involved?
Educators, future educators, and even parents, a large struggle we see in some schools is the lack of involvement from parents as well as community members. This leads to students not being as engaged in school or the community which costs them valuable opportunities everywhere.
In my county, I am currently trying to talk to schools to encourage them with ideas about upping the involvement of the community within the school and the students' involvement in activities outside of the school. These ideas range from painting classrooms, halls, etc. to ensuring lockers work before each school year. The list is endless, as well as the benefits.
So, if you have a strong sense of kinship in your community with your schools and locals, how do you do it? If not, how would you do it?

question: seeking parents' approval for literary magazine
I sponsor a middle school literary magazine, and my principal has asked, very kindly, about seeking parental permission for their child's work to be published. Some of our student start to explore some more-mature issues (nothing concerning or alarming, which I would refer to a social-worker), and she would like me to get input from parents for those stories and poems that address those issues. Do any of you have suggestions or resources that I could have a look at?
Thanks.

Politics Aside, Are There Any Practical Reasons Why The American School Year Is Not Nine Months Long?
Let me start by saying how much I love the fact that this subreddit automatically capitalizes each word in the title; it's absolutely wonderful!
The current nine-month school year came about from a need to get kids back home to help with harvest, but it's been a long time since that's been true. These days, the shorter year causes a burden on teachers who must support themselves all year long while only earning money for nine months' worth of work. It also causes a burden on the parents it was supposed to assist since young children require paid supervision in the summer months now that most families have a working mother and father.
Besides the financial burden caused by the shorter school year, there is also the children's quality of life to consider. Right now, school related stress peaks during midterms and finals as both students and teachers attempt to cram as much information as they can in a few short months. A longer school year could potentially relax the pacing of education and offer more opportunities for those who need additional attention and remedial work.
With kids in school all year, they would have less time to be idle and get into trouble. A lot of the negative relationships kids make are established and strengthened during the summer as they start making friends based solely on their geographic location instead of their academic goals and abilities. This strengthens insular world-views (a.k.a. cliques) and makes children less likely to create relationships with people that are different in almost every way except academics.
There are more reasons I could list why a year-long school year would be better that the current nine month year, but I think that the financial, academic, and social aspects are plenty with which to prove the point. Are any of these arguments invalid? Are there any arguments to support a nine month school year? What do you think are the barriers to change on this subject?

Instead Of "Education For All" Would Public Education Be Better If It Was "Education For All Who Want To Be Educated"?
I just graduated high school from the AP/honors track and I believed that I received an excellent education due to the hard work and dedication of my teachers. However I know that was not the case for everyone at my high school. Allot my friends in regular at school did not want to be there. They only showed up because they were legally required to and learned nothing. They did absolutely no work because they hate school but they graduated high school because they showed up and didn't cause any trouble. As much as its good to have well-educated populace you can't educate the unwilling. There has always been a part of America that does not want education and it does not do anyone any good to force them physically into school buildings. I feel that allot of the policymakers are out of touch with that reality and do not accept the fact that there will always be a certain segment of the population that does not want education and trying to teach them is a fruitless endeavor and a waste of resources. Part of the cause is that allot of decision makers in the education system were also in the AP/honors track during high school and did not have much contact with the kids in regular who did not want education. Thus they did not factor those children in when making education policy. Allot of resources are being wasted in trying to address the lack of educational progress made by those who do not want education (ie dropout prevention programs, programs to raise reading scores of those who don't want to read, programs to raise math scores of those who don't want to do any math) when they should just accept that allot of those kids just dont want to read, write, or learn. I feel that public education would be way better if its mission was changed from "Education For All" to "Education For All Who Want To Be Educated".

Re-Educating a Life of Failure
Essentially, I would like to re-educate myself, but I'm not necessarily sure how to actually go about following through with the idea that I have.
I'm a 29 year old guy who is a high school and college dropout. I have always been clever, though spacey and despondent, so my relationship with school has been a bit toxic. I feel left behind by the education system and would like to teach myself what I've missed out on, so I can begin to learn more advanced subjects.
For instance, I'm absolutely terrible at math. I never so much as tried to learn it.
Since my teens, I have pursued somewhat pipe dreams. Not that anything can't be achieved, I just don't know if it's my path. I certainly know I wouldn't be doing it for the right reasons. I have always dreamed of being a famed writer, and while I love conceptualizing stories, I'm terrible at seeing them through, and only ever legitimately invested myself in that for the aspect of glory.
At the root of dreaming up stories, is the fact that I like to marvel. This takes me back to my earlier days in childhood having been a natural little scientist explorer, tinkerer, wonderer, though I was often told to reel it in or stop taking stuff apart.
As a preteen and teen, society screamed what success meant, and having been an artsy, writerly, daydreamed I was I wanted to seek fame and fortune in show business, which is impossible to break into unless you're willing work your ass off to do that—something an apathetic 14 year old had no concept of.
Despite putting my scientific passions aside to dream loftily about creative success, it never left me and I continued to read scientific articles as a layman. Throughout life I have marveled at the cosmos and the nature of the universe.
In the most enlightening spell of my life, I find myself at rock bottom—which is surprisingly a peaceful position to be in. I am looking homelessness in the face in a few days when my lease ends, but I stopped mourning it a long time ago. After a crippling battle with depression, I have had a series of epiphanies based on two things: Absurdist philosophy and Neil Degrasse Tyson's pragmatic views of existence and death.
When realizing that nothing matters to our objective reality, it's easy to see what matters most to our human experience: ourselves alone. It's not until we nurture ourselves that we can begin to love anything else.
And what matters most to me is learning. I've fought learning for 30 years, but in the woodwork it's been my life force.
I want to restart my education process in a concentrated, condensed manner teaching myself everything I failed to learn in my youth. I want to retake the ACT exam and actually try to succeed in it, so I can go back to college prepared to study astrophysics/theoretical physics.
All of this puts me in the mind of that stupid Adam Sandler movie, but that's essentially what I want to do for myself. A relative suggested reviewing the state education standards as a start, but o if any of you other educators have any advice for how to proceed it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you, Charlie

Some SpED questions I have never gotten a straight answer on...
1) I have SpEd kids who are missing fundamental information and skills. I understand they have cognitive difficulty, but I'll give instruction and the issue isn't the disability but the lack education.
How responsible am I to fill in those gaps? I'm responsible for the contract/IEP, but the issue I see most is one of literacy.
2) How much responsibility do we hand over for their own learning? Many IEPs are very vague as to what to accommodate or modify. One in particular is use of notecard on a test. So I have 16 year olds at the time of the test who are angry I didn't tell them to make a notecard.
This is probably the worst way to say it, but when do we start pooping the teet out their mouth? I had a kid who had a 'preferential seating' accommodation that was added in kinder. But by Junior year, should we encourage the skill of autonomy. Practice being away from the teacher?
3) I have SpEd kids who outperform regular ed kids. So what am I to actually accommodate? The kid's pulling a C but needs help pulling an A? I work with all of my students, but if a kid has a bad hip, he's not going to place 1st in my competition. The expectation is to push all students, but how much for SpEd?
4) it seems like many cognitive issues have to do with bad conditioning. I see kids who need prompting like every 3 minutes. but if we were to somehow put in their face a reminder and a reward, they'd do great.
They put a non-grad track senior in my history class just to see what he could do. There was no way he was going to make it. But apparently the kid was a genius when it came to car engines. He could take them apart and put them back together (which you could expect with repetition and reward), but he could troubleshoot. He could predict and provide reasoning and be correct. That is some higher level cognitive skills. I knew enough about engines to converse with him. But he was at a 3rd grade level.
So either he memorized every scenario possible with a car or this kid could function at a high cognitive level, but just with a specialty.
5) SpEd kids being teenagers. If you treat teens different they call it being unfair. If you reason why they should act different, they'll agree, but slip right back into the same behavior. This is expected because of their lack of cognitive ability and experience.
But how do I accommodate a SpEd kid who is a teen and has an executive function issue. I can sit down and explain they have X issue. But that issue is going to be compounded by errant teen behaviors. Where do I come in? They're at a greater disadvantage than their peers but they act like their peers. Which means they can't act like their peers. We talk about inclusion, but they have to self-select out of it to be successful. I have SpEd kids who do this. Rise above their peer group and do very well, so it's not impossible.
It's summer, and I'd really like to be pointed in a direction where I can get these issues addressed.

My daughter is excelling in a Montessori program and is considered to be advanced. The teachers are recommending I send her to another Montessori from K-8 to keep her at that level. Aspiring Special Education teacher to severely handicapped on the verge of quitting the profession. Need honest advice (even from trolls)
Greetings Reddit, I'm in my 40's and am an aspiring Special Education teacher to severely handicapped. For the past 6 years I've worked with moderate to severely handicapped students aged from kindergarten up to high school, in low socioeconomic urban areas. (I worked with this population all 4 years of my high school experience as well.) I have 30+ letters of recommendation from parents of students, teachers, principals, specialists, and even a few administrators. I entered a credential program 6 years ago & have taken every class offered by my university towards Special Education. I'm only 2 classes away from completing the program, but for the past 5 years I've been held back because of my inability to pass a state mandated math test. My inability to pass this test which is mainly 8th grade math (Algebra, Geometry) & below, has me wondering if I should even be teaching at all. Do I have the right to be a "teacher" if I struggle so much with general math? I have a documented severe reading disorder, math fluency disorder, Dyscalculia, Dysgraphia, and ADHD. My difficulties, have made math & other academic subjects punishing on me for my entire life. I don't mention these difficulties for pity but for you to understand that math, reading, spelling & a trillion other things are really bleeping hard for me. All in all, I feel, and have been told I would be a great teacher to the severely handicapped. I enjoy the challenges of this job & I love the students. Truthfully though, because of my inability to pass this math test as more time goes by I feel like I'm not worthy of being a teacher. My inability to pass this test has really beaten the crap out of my self esteem and bashed up my soul pretty damn good. So, what do think Reddit? Is it time for me to find a new job/career? Any thoughts, opinions, advice and even trolling is welcome. -Thanks

For profit college?
Not sure if this is the right subreddit for this question, I apologize if it's not. I was thinking of doing the AA program for IT at a for profit college (SJVC). It's only 60 weeks. I'm trying to do something as quickly as I can. However I don't know if that would be a waste of time, or if I should just try and take all the classes I need at a Community College. Any have insight on these kinds of schools. or advice. I hear mixed things about both.

Stupid question but can you double major in grad school
I'm gonna be a senior this upcoming school year and although I'm thinking of going into education and being a teacher or some job in education, I also think about money aspects and teachers don't make much to balance my love of children and whatnot so I was thinking about journalism or communications to be a news anchor or mastering a subject to eventually be a college professor.
I guess the question I'm asking is any advice as I'm gonna be a senior in three months and still have no clue on what I want to do. But also can I double master in grad school

(UK) What happens if an entire college class fails?
With the exam in my computer science course happening within the next 24 hours, scrambling has amassed throughout the class, to put it bluntly, the way we have been taught is unbelievable, we have been given incredibly limited resources and not even told our exam board until 2 weeks prior to the exam (all we were told was our spec was new) with this new information of our exam board, the first thing the class did was to take to the net to find any streamlined book with topic information, only to find out that our teacher had not taught us three whole modules.
Up until now, the only resources we have had has been power point presentations placed online that were, to say the least, lacking in content, the lessons for the past 6 months have been to simply "study" meaning we have been given 2 hours of free time to study, an actual lesson has not taken place for months, so, we have all realised, odds are, the entire class will fail.
If this does happen, what can we do, are we forced to just take the fail or will the teacher receive some form of punishment?

I need help with what i'm going to do
I came to Europe to study, I was a kid back then and I didn't know what it meant. I could only speak English, (And Georgian) so I thought it wouldn't be a problem, before I realized I needed to study Dutch. I failed my first year, but they let me through to the next school cause they thought my language was the problem. (And it was) So, I failed next year, my Dutch was still very, very poor. Now I can speak normally and communicate with people just as if it was in English or Georgian. I in 9th grade, studying STEM. I already did a year over, and now I'm facing the same problem. At my old school, they mostly looked at the end results, where as here, they look at your performance throughout the year. Your attitude in classes plays a big role, because for example with STEM, it's 60%. Even if you get A+ on test, but your attitude is bad, you will have under 50%. This last 2 months I stepped up my game a bit, did better job at overall with every subject. But the exams are what scare me, I'm trying to prepare myself mentally if I fail. I'm into CS:GO, making entertaining YouTube videos (Satire, CS:GO Skin Gambling, Dank meme-ish) and programming. There are a lot of great places to learn how to code. (CodeAcademy which I started using, in 2 days, I learned the basics and could code basic HTML/CSS codes. And so, if I fail I don't want to go back to school since my classmates will be 2 years younger than me, and it will be awkward. Plus my friends will go to the next year. So, if I do... should I give up? Should I drop out of school and learn how to code on my own, make YouTube videos and overall do what my heart says and what my passion is? Or should I make my life more miserable for myself. My family will be disappointed as well, my summer vacation won't be as fun as it would and overall my life will get harder. I really don't know what to do, I tried my best (exams) and waiting for the answer. I just want to know what you guys recommend. A: Continue with school, make my life more miserable for me, be a joke and a disappointment for my family (even more). Or B: Stop with school, return to my home country with my Laptop, PC and all of my other stuff (mostly collections) and start studying coding, cracking/hacking, become better at CS:GO and make more YouTube videos and try to make my way up like that. Remember, I'm only 16, I bought 1ms, 144hz, 27-inch AOC screen, Razer Blade Laptop Full HD, 1TB 8GB RAM R7 Graphics 4 Core all by myself. Not counting: Gaming/YouTube set up, Gadgets, real life CS:GO knife collection and most importantly, CS:GO skins. This is what I bought by myself. I really need some answers, what should I do, what do you guys recommend me to do? Thanks for your attention <3 God Bless You All!

In Need of Advice.
Hi there, a little backstory is needed. I was placed in Running start my junior year for Winter quarter. This was after I moved out of 17 because I was in a dangerous enviornment. I had a close friend in Seattle whom I have moved in with. I have since started working at a Starbucks in Seattle and supporting myself. It took so long and I had to fight really hard to get any and all meetings and eventually I succeeded when I threatened to have my parents pull me from school. It finally got their attention but it took over 3 months.
I am 18 now and facing acedemic probation. With being new to working and dealing with health and emotional problems I couldn't dedicate myself to the last quarter. Winter quarter I had a 94.6% average which dropped to a 32.1%. I called my (highschool) counselor to sort out options. She said I could take summer classes and earn 2 credits I needed and that she would email the information to me. She also set up a meeting with me for the next week. Today I showed up for our meeting and she didn't. The staff were all in the back eating donuts from a box and laughing about graffiti on the school wall. After 45 minutesI was approached by the Office Manager and asked who I was waiting on. I said that my counselor and I had a meeting.
The manager then told me that she would be out of her meeting in about an hour to two hours. I had my boyfriend drive me an hour from Seattle and wasn't going to make him wait. So I left her my number and she promised to have either my counselor give me a call or she would do it herself. She didn't call and I'm panicking. My counselor hasn't sent the information either.
I have no idea what to do and I'm being shirked off so easily. They did this before for three months straight and this is important. I'm an [18F] with no idea how to get their attention and how to continue on with Running Start. I can't do high school hours and be able to pay rent. I've alsways tested very high and I'm a good student with good study habots. What do I do?

Need Educational Advice..
im 18 and just graduated high school. i plan on going to college in the spring or next fall. so my parents want me to do spanish 1 and a supplementary math at the community college this semester, but cant tell me why. they say to show that i have a good GPA so a college will accept me. my GPA was about 3.6-3.9. like when i ask questions, it just becomes a "bcuz we said so" type of thing. i dont plan on going to a big school. just a cheaper local 4 yr school. i plan on taking the ACT in September after studying thru this summer. in practices i get a 24-27. im also not good at math at all, but bought some programs to teach myself and get better. my language in high school was 1 year of Russian. what do you guys think about all this? if u need any additional details lemme know. thanks! just looking for guidance for if i should do those classes they want me to do or not. im thinking i want to become a financial advisor so extra math studying is a must, but im not sure about the Spanish 1 class..

When they quit
Today I watched a student "take" the state test (required for graduation). I was appalled as he placed the pencils at the top of his desk and did nothing. I believe that he swiped a few pages, but read nothing and wrote nothing.
This evening I sat in on a boxing class, and I was the worst. Literally. The words: "jab, cross, hook, uppercut" flew at me too quickly for me to process and my awkward, left handedness, extra 30 lbs, and the fact that I am the oldest person in the room made me want to quit.
And when I got home, I cried. I cried because I fucking suck and boxing, but I'm not going to quit.
I fought pursuing A STEM career as a woman, I fought social anxiety to become a teacher, I fought my total lack of coordination to take a boxing class.
So what is the difference?
Oh, I have supportive parents who encourage me, a husband to complain to, , a department chair who listens, friends that I can text and take to class with me.
Many of our students don't have the same benefit. It hit me how much we have to be that person for them.
It makes me feel better because when that student left without making a mark on the test I wanted to pull him aside to tell him, "you got this. I know that it is hard and you are bad at it, but you can't quit fighting to do it."
Of course that would have broken testing protocol which indicates that we only read the instructions from the testing manual.
We all just want encouragement.

What are the best universities with game design/development & programming
I'll have to enroll in university next year and I'm interested in pursuing a career in Game Development. I'm from Bulgaria so most European universities which have this kind of course would be fine. So far I've found Uppsala University and Hanze University, but I can't seem to find many others. It's also important to note that I'd like the education to be in English(Excluding England, since I want to live in that country after I gradute).

Scholarly books on human development in the context of education- suggestions?
Hi, I am hoping to go into School Counseling, and for my personal statement wanted to prove that I have invested interest in understanding the empirical side of promoting positive outcomes for K-12 youth.
I'm sure human development, and understanding it through an academic and empirical lense would be beneficial, but I do not know where to start. Are there any reading suggestions from a comprehensive standpoint on this subject from academics with esteemed research in this area that I can draw from?
Feel free to note any asides on criticism of said theories and research that may be bubbling under the surface throughout the academic community if there is further research I can investigate.
Thank you if you have any suggestions! It would mean a lot to me :)

Free people of Reddit, why did you leave your formal education behind you?
What I'm interested in is the reason why you left your formal education behind you when you didn't have to (or something similar to that). Of course, answers like "Because I graduated from college/university", "I got out of cash", "I got pregnant" and similar answers don't really count.
As for me, 12 years ago I applied on Faculty of Mathematics for Computer Science, since I wanted to be a software developer from childhood. When I was 4 exams away from getting a Bachelor's Degree, a small (at the time) business opportunity presented itself and I took a bite. After few months of working from home for a company on a different continent from mine, I realized that it's either to continue working or leave work for a short while until I get my degree.
Since I never really liked "the learning package" university had to offer to students at the time, and the Internet was my #1 school when it comes to computer science (still is), I was never truly motivated to study in a traditional manner. So, with only 4 exams away from getting that degree, I dropped out and never looked back.
Since then, I've been working as a web developer and I enjoy every day of it. I've been in the IT industry for quite some time now, with relevant work experience and High School Diploma in Mechanical Engineering. For now, no regrets.
What's your story?

I am a brand new DTC for a small district, although I have been a CTC many times. There are so many questions that I have and I am bugging my outgoing DTC way too much. I have all of the state resources and have read over them repeatedly. Is there a place that STAAR DTC's and CTC's go to ask questions that they may not be able to locate answers to? And yes, I will have access to TSNAP and my Region Service Center but there are many times that I don't want to wait for an answer when someone probably knows it off the cuff on a weekend or in the evenings.

Hey all! So I'm going into my second year teaching 8th grade US history in a California public school with decent funding (woohoo for surviving!)
However, I'm also taking on running the ASB program next year as a +1 and have very little knowledge on how to do so.

Rethinking K-12?
It's often said, validly, that more and more jobs are requiring college credentials and skills, the cost of which then thwart people from becoming economically mobile. Most of the conversation I hear and read, though, is about how we can make college affordable rather than how we can rethink the K-12 curriculum to make a high school diploma more valuable in the new economy. I'm sure this is just a bias of sources because I'm in higher ed, but can anyone point me to some writings or initiatives that touch in this sort of rethinking? I'm not really sure what to search. Thanks in advance.

How do I become more culturally knowledgeable?
I am about to start my graduate program search to become a biology teacher, and teaching grade 7-12. After reflecting what has happened the last few years and today's social, political and cultural issues, I realized that I need to work more on my awareness and sensitivities regarding the expanding diversity of today and future students.
I am Chinese American and grew up in a predominately white neighborhood. So my exposure is not very varied, beyond environmental education and community work that I do. I am able to interact with other minority groups and enjoy learning so much from them as we go through the program-they offer so many great stories and insights, but I do feel myself lacking in building rapport and relating to my usually 1 time students and visitors, especially when they link our programs to a social issue they are concerned about.
I would like to get a head start on educating myself and expanding my knowledge and experiences before I begin graduate courses. Would any of my fellow Redditors be able to suggest any reading materials, media, groups or organizations or online group forums that I could participate in?
It would be very helpful.
Thank you.
