I am a high school teacher in California.
As far as I know (using the California Department of Education page), every teacher in California has to fill out a form for each class that lists student participation. I am not sure how many other teachers/districts are doing this, but I decided since we are mandated to report this information, I might as well make it as efficient and useful as possible.
I designed this Google Sheet so that it is extremely easy for teachers to fill out the "engagement" part of the form (the other parts of the form our school does through another more efficient way already).
I am hoping there is someone out there who might be able to use this to save some time.
Cool features:
- Each tab is for 1 teacher and can be printed out on a weekly/monthly basis with a place to sign
- Dates can be manipulated from the "Main" tab to change the tabs for the rest of the teachers
- "Main" tab pulls scores from all teacher tabs to calculate average engagement for that student (and as long as the student's first name and last name are spelled right, it can be in any order)
- If a student is absent for any 1 class, they are considered absent in the "Main" tab
- Absences and yearly-running-average for the students engagement are automatically totalled
- Everything is color coded to make patterns pop out faster
A few notes:
- We are using the "Red Flags" tab to put the scores (i.e. 73%) for students we are worried about and then we put a comment in the cell with any additional information (i.e. Student stopped doing work since 9/30)
- The formula for the cells in the "Main" tab that average the student's score for the day was a b**** to make, but it wouldn't be that hard to add more teacher tabs. The only reason it is so long is because it kept doubling every time I needed to add a feature. PM me if you need any help.
- I put some fake data in for the first week so you can see how it looks. Please feel free to make a copy of this to play around with it more.
- Our school only has ~50 students, so this took me only 10 minutes to copy paste the class rosters in for each teacher tab, but I imagine this could scale up easily.
- F*** the politicians that decided to do this to the teachers of California. My god. As if we were not dealing with enough right now.
