Looking for help incorporating more black history into my curriculum.

So I’m a seventh grade American history teacher in Louisiana in my seventh year. I do cover slavery throughout the year and I try to foster conversations with my students about slavery and it’s connection to issues we have today. I do my best to make my students feel comfortable sharing their thoughts and feelings and to know they’re safe to do so. However I am a white man and I have no idea what it truly means to be black in America. I just do my best to empathize and listen.

I just don’t want to do my students a disservice, especially in today’s climate. I am hoping that teachers with more experience than I can point me towards resources and topics that I’ve missed and things to be aware of as far as myself. I don’t want any of my biases to hinder me teaching or to unintentionally hurt one of my students.

Any help with people, topics, activities, resources, etc. would be greatly appreciated!
