Why do school canteens serve the worst, cheapest food to the young, aspiring future generations?

If I had a greasy pastry for the amount of times I've pondered this question, I could open my own canteen and take advantage of students myself!

For the life of me I cannot understand how educational institutions prioritize such canteens at the expense of youth's health. Don't you dare state that it is equally the youth's fault.

It is entirely self-evident that this must be rectified, yet day-in-day out students are educated at 11 and provided crap food at 12. The implications are staggering.

Some might say it is a matter of price. Yet don't forget that schools should know better, and do know better. These are educators folks.

Still, if you choose to justify this atrocity in terms of price, let me put it this way, “If you think education is expensive, try ignorance.” The cost of this ignorance or negligence is exponential when considering the implications of unhealthy youths on their own health and how that impacts society as a whole down the line. So instead of justifying these horrid practices, let's work towards solutions.

I am not saying that it is a guaranteed right to be provided good food at school, but if you do have a canteen, come on..
