My 5th grade (age 11) brought home his Star Math test score this week and the score was 1149 which it says is ranked better than 98% of all 5th graders in the nation.
We know he's a strong student and good at math, but we have never heard anything from his teachers about having extraordinary math skills, and we've never noticed anything that would indicate his math skills are exceptional (other than his Star rankings).
98 Percentile across the nation at anything to me seems special and something that should be fostered.
I am trying to determine how meaningful this Star test ranking actually is. Is this anything special, that we should definitely start to really try and foster? Right now we have him playing 4 different sports year round. He's never done any math or coding camps or classes outside of school.
Can someone help me understand if this test scores really means anything special or not?
Thank you
