I feel a big gap in my education. What are some essential pieces of knowledge/concepts/ideas that I should know about by the end of college?

I’m in college to be an English teacher, and sometimes I feel really dumb compared to my peers. I want to have a more comprehensive education of the world around me, but years of mental illness have caused a gap in my education. For example, (please no judgment), I just learned this year what fascism is. In order to be a teacher I need to know a lot more about the world. What concepts/ideas/perspectives/areas of study/essential pieces of knowledge should I learn more about in my personal time in order to feel confident in my knowledge about the world? Even things that may be obvious are welcome. Not sure if this is the right subreddit for this but any help is highly appreciated!
