Hello friends I am a 20 years old biology student from Greece and I came here after I started wondering about student protesting in all levels in education ,I would like to learn and discuss about the topic so please give me your opinion :-)
So here in Greece junior high school and high school students often use chains to lock up the school doors for one or more days to protest against a list of things. We give the list to the teachers, we hold a vote where the majority decides if the school should be closed or not and we stay out of the gates preventing the cutting of the chains during school hours (schedule watch teams). This is semi legal and the police are brought to the scene, basically it's not a law in any book but citizens respect it. In universities where the students are adults there are actual laws to protect their protests.
Cons / Pros Sadly nowadays it is mostly used as an excuse for not taking classes and a negotiation takes place between the student council (15 people) and the teachers, if the students overdo it some trips may be cancelled or some events. But if a true problem arises it actually works! For example when the government tried to bring back school uniforms these protests didn't let them. In universities on the other hand this happens only for serious reasons ,but universities are very politically active ,just like they are in the rest of Europe, so not everyone agrees with a reason for a protest.
In any case , I was wondering if this practice takes place in any of your countries and if you think it should. I would love to read your replies :-)
