I remember my cultural diversity professor teaching me anti-bias learning. Her whole spiel was challenge beliefs. Funnily enough, I challenged her whole curriculum and brought it all down. She said, old white males are the real racists. I said well, in this country, a lot of people of colour have moved in within the last few decades. So thag explains why there is a large population of old people who happen to be primarily white and unfortunately like most old people, they don't care for the language police. Then she said why sports players taking knees is so hated. I said sports is unifying in nature and please don't bring politics into it as most watch it for the game, not the messaging. Third she said something about stopping people from being racist. I asked her how can I control other's actions? I can only control my actions and take individual responsibility for it. We should get our house in order as an example before telling people to cut their grass while our lawn is unkept. Then she told a story about a child correcting her educator's accent and that's a form of racism. The child is 5 years old, they don't understand racism. They don't even understand race. They watch and learn before they understand. All childhood parents correct children's pronunciation, so is it reasonable to believe the child acted in a similar way instead of casual racism? At the end, it went so bad that she stopped responding to my words at all. She showed us a picture of some dude who retired after 30 matches. I said Mandela stayed in prison for 30 years and this guy is supposed to end racism? I asked her who are you going to bring people to your side of you're simply going to shun them. Daryl Davis, is a prime example of how you treat racism!!! God help us all... And people please stop over-correctimg yourself. Going from racism to anti-racism. Find a common spot without racism.
