My bad for the long read.
You have two options in front of you- US or UK, which one do you choose?
You’re going to study Accounting/Finance and the UK uni you got into has one of the best business schools in the world, is a target uni and a top 10 uni in the UK BUT you haven’t received any scholarship and the cost is HIGH, although you think you can bear the living expenses by yourself, there are still uncertainties. You plan on applying for summer internships/placement year and plan to use that salary to cover some of the expenses but these are uncertainties as you’re not sure if you’ll get an internship since the industry u wanna get into is extremely competitive. You wanna go to UK as you like the UK uni culture but you’re not sure if you should take such a risk with finances being dependent on getting an internship.
On the other hand, the US uni is nowhere near the UK uni, ranked only 133rd nationally but still respected as it has a unique coop program and you can also get around 1.5 yrs of work experience but the total length of your degree will be 5 YEARS. And although they have provided you financial aid, the cost is still HIGH and there are still uncertainties as the coop and thus the coop salary isn’t guaranteed since it depends on the strength of your job applications. However, you have the option to apply for a RA (Resident Assistant) job and although it’s selective, if successful it can significantly decrease your cost of attendance BUT it’s another uncertainty and you’re not sure if you should take the risk. Besides, the industry you wanna get into only targets students from Ivy League business schools and so you might be at a disadvantage when you graduate and have to settle for some other career path.
In terms of settlement, UK will provide you 2 yrs after graduation to stay and work and get sponsored while US will provide you 1 year to potentially find an employer who will sponsor you. BUT you have an active US immigration application which might get approved by the time you graduate and you don’t have to worry about leaving the US but that’s an uncertainty as well.
In such a situation, what would you do? Which option would you go for and why? Given that both options have big uncertainties in terms of finance and employment prospects, which poses a lower risk and better reward
