What do you all think about this:
On the most recent episode of our podcast, Freddie deBoer argues that Education is one of the primary tools that politicians and pundits tout as a way to improve the equality of society. A look at the outcomes of education, at the widening achievement and wealth gaps, suggests that while more Americans than ever before have access to education, that education is not working to improve equality.
Agree or Disagree: Education DOES NOT WORK as a tool to improve equality in society; instead, it reinforces the class system as it already exists.
Do you agree or disagree with this argument? Is improving societal equality even a legitimate purpose of education? What is education supposed to do for society?
Would love to hear people's thoughts! We post a more in-depth topic explanation on r/LearningMachine - please check it out if you want to learn more about the podcast, I want to be careful not to be spamming/self promoting, but we would love to hear folks' opinion on this topic.
