Does the system/record actually exist and if so how does it function?

I'm asking because when I was younger in school I was a pretty bad student , I was the class clown and I'd do stupid pranks on some teachers like that stuff, grades wise I wasn't that bad, I actually got very good grades in a few subjects, and obviously I'd get in trouble a lot. Over my compulsory school years I was internally excluded 4 times and externally kicked out once for 3 days, I was told this would be on my record in the system and haunt me when I'm older. After I finished high school/secondary despite that, getting into 6th form I had no problems, my past of getting internals multiple times was not brought up, it literally has not effected me in any way what so ever. I'm not saying that there is no system but if it does exist why didn't it effect me? Was I lucky? Does your record have to be much worse? Thanks
