I'm a uni student who really struggles to maintain focus while studying. Usually, it is particular websites, Reddit for example, that draw my attention away. I have been using website-blocking browser extensions for some time, in conjunction with a Pomodoro timer on my phone. While the Pomodoro timer helps a lot, I still struggle to maintain focus because on almost all of these browser extensions, disabling them is as simple and going to the top right of the screen and pressing a button. Unfortunately, my willpower is not always strong enough to enforce this.
Does anyone have suggestions for a website-blocking extension or application that is difficult to disable when activated, so it is not so easy to procrastinate? It would also be great if it has an in-built Pomodoro timer so it unblocks websites during the break period. While many extensions do allow you to set a blocking period, for instance 25 minutes, I haven't seen many that let you set a series of blocks separated by breaks, in the format of the Pomodoro technique. If this exists, I think it would help me a lot.
I posted this on another subreddit, and they suggested that I just need to increase my motivation. I don't think it is realistic to be motivated to do work all the time, so this is not feasible.
I have already tried:
- Forest
- Freedom
- Pause
- Leechblock NG
- BlockSite (this one appears to be spyware)
