It might be a good idea to you as a parent to May be called around to a few of the local apartment complexes far enough away that they aren't in your immediate area like within 5 to 10 minutes but close enough that it might be similar to what your student might be living with housing wise when they are at school and then take your student who is about to graduate with you and just have them kind of lead the housing hunt... Step back as apparent and let them figure out exactly what to ask An apartment leasing agent, What's the average water bill the average electricity cost, Are there any police officers that live in the complex, Does the complex allow dogs what's the average price hike between year to year for rent what's the neighborhood like that kind of thing.... Or read the questions yourself but make sure your child who is the student hears what's here's what's being asked and maybe encourage them to ask their own questions and actually be part of the conversation that way they're familiar with what you need to assess with an apartment leasing operation and exactly how much it would cost along with what paperwork needs to be filled out...
And you can always then just not fill out the paperwork pretend one of the responses was a bit surprising to you and that you needed to take a look and consult with Someone else before you filled out any paperwork and then leave... Without making any commitments to anything housing related but it's a good way to give the student who is your child who will be moving out soon to go to college a good experience as to how they should go about investigating and searching for an apartment after they finish their year in the dormitories at their college... Also if your student is working while they are in high school don't just do their taxes for them the 1st time they have taxes that need to be done walk them through the process have them fill out the forms themselves or teach them how to do it that way when they go off to college they know they have to fill out taxes and have some basic knowledge both on how to rent an apartment and how to do taxes that's important life experience that you can make sure they get before they graduate from high school that way they have some basic building blocks on how to function as an adult outside of normal high school instruction.
