What's with these crazy "homeschool" people?

I taught in an Arkansan middle school and once a while there would be a few students dropping out because their parents decided to "homeschool" their kids. I mean, what the hell?

I mean, where do these homeschooling people come from? Do they just scroll through some Flat-Earth community page or some crazy klansman page on Facebook and think that "tHe eDuCatIon iS bRaiNwAShing i aM gOnNa hOmEsChool mY kIdS." Seriously, what is this?
