Questions for Educators from a College student

Hello educators of Reddit! I am a current college student trying to understand some things about the current education system (specifically of the US, but others are wonderful as well) as I am trying to make children's book/educational products to assist parents and teachers (think something like Bluey but more educational and interactive). I have been running some surveys in schools, and today I received some feedback on my survey that this highschool-aged child didn't learn how to read until 5th grade. I find that very alarming, and I would just like to know if this is the reality of the American education system?
Here are some of my questions for those willing to answer:

  1. Are your students struggling to learn and comprehend topics? Why do you think this is and do schools provide you any assistance with these issues or is the support abysmal?
  2. Are there things children are not learning in schools that you think there should be supportive external curriculum for? I have heard they are cutting things like Home-education classes in school, is this true, and if so what do you think?
  3. Do you think post-COVID schooling is dramatically different? Are there any issues you have been facing?
  4. Are your student's parents proactive in helping their child's learning? Or are they detached, and is there a reason why?
  5. How negatively do you think hyper-stimulating things such as Cocomelon and TikTok effect kids?

You don't have to answer all of these! Just what you feel like you know about. Anything is super helpful to me, thank you! And if this isn't allowed in this Sub please let me know. :)
