Hello, I'm currently a freshman in high school. I have a 7th grade reading level. I failed the FAST test in the winter and the spring in 8th grade for ela reading which caused me to get into "intensive reading". This class is specifically for kids who failed the FAST, had bad ela grades in the past, or both. I'm only in here because I failed the FAST 2/3 times last year. Before 8th grade, my reading level was average to good. My 8th grade ELA teacher did not teach at all which caused me to be stuck at a 7th grade level. Intensive reading is filled with dangerous kids who do drugs, talk horribly to the teacher, etc. My teacher is nice but the kids in the class are not in general. My ELA teacher said I can get out of the class mid way through the year BUT I must show 9th grade level on two tests (a mid 3 on the winter FAST, ANS 1050 on achieve3000). I passed the recent FAST at the beginning of the school year with a low 3 but I need to improve. Please give me suggestions on how to improve. My ELA teacher now teaches good which is helping me but I need more advice. Intensive reading has helped me but I need to get out of it as it is not ideal to get into top colleges and universities.
P.S. Apparently the FAST Tests in 10th grade determine if we can graduate or not so...
