I am looking for some advice on High School choice for my daughter. She lives with her mother and her district has a high school with full year classes. I teach high school mathematics in my district that has a 4x4 block schedule and a more rigorous curriculum. I think that she would be much better served in my district but it would mean a huge change in her coming to live with me. She has a gifted IEP and skipped 6th grade. She is starting 8th and her district does not offer Algebra 1 in middle school, a battle we are currently fighting with them. My main question is this: for an advanced student, would a full-year curriculum be disadvantageous to her in the long-run? She would not have the opportunity to double up on mathematics classes until her senior year, forgoing Calculus BC at the very least. While I have my own opinions, I am seeking external advice as I feel my role as both a parent and an AP math teacher bias me.
