My district is red lined. And the legacy still affects kids today. Schools built in strategic locations and boundaries drawn as areas began to color up.
I did a causal meet and greet with some board members - progressive board members and asked what they thought about the red lining.
The first response was: “what’s that?”
And I proceeded to teach what I teach my 11th graders.
And then the conversation came to a halt as I continued with more evidence of segregation because they were still trying to process red lining.
Local control is a joke.
