What are some things I can do to help get my brain back into learning mode after shutting that part off over a decade ago?

If this isn't the right sub for this please direct me to where I should go! R teachers and adult education didnt seem quite right and this one still seems a little off.

Halfway through highschool I mentally checked out. I'd do enough to pass and that was it.

I used to read books like crazy though when I was ignoring school work and when there was actually a book to read for a class I'd chew through it in a day or two because reading two chapters at a time didnt make any sense.

You want me to read 20-30 pages? That's like eating one Dorito. Is that even possible?

However school ended and work started and I stopped reading books entirely.

Life goes on and I'd like to start a youtube channel. The subject matter is something I'm very interested in but not very knowledgeable about. So lots of reading is required but my brain isnt having any of it.

Nothing is really sticking the way it used to. I bought a book to start with (many more to come for sure) and after the first 30 pages I was totally COOKED. Absolute brain melt. I retained maybe 5% of what I had read.

It seems gone are the days where I can suck a whole book down in a couple days and remember 90% of it.

How do I get back to that? Or close to it? I've bought a notebook and have started the book over while taking notes with page references.

I know that's a start but there has to be more I can do to re awaken that part of me right?

Thanks in advance and sorry if this is the wrong sub!
