Hi there, so a little introduction:
I’m 24 years old and have been flip flopping around with what I want to do with life. I’ve tried going to university in Canada Ontario for biochemistry and then later physics, I couldn’t get through the first semester of either. Wasn’t the concepts that where difficult, but I found I switched my classes around and it overall destroyed my ability to keep up. These both occurred at age 22 and 23. I feel really guilty that I haven’t accomplished anything academically. Previously at 18 I was in electrical engineering technology at Mohawk college and same thing happened couldn’t finish the semester but it was due to being in a car accident and I needed a break after the 40 hours of being a student and working 40 hours.
Current: Here I am at 24 and I’m thinking, I want to either purse becoming an artist whether it’s painting or digital. Or going back to school and doing electrical engineering technology, I loved it! Like genuinely but I feel that I’ve developed a very unhealthy relationship with post-secondary education, and I fear wasting my own time and my spouses time. My boyfriend, did nursing and we made a decision I’d work while he finished nursing and now it’s my turn to focus on career development. Which I feel like I’ve floundered tbh. I would love to do both art and engineering and take a diploma transfer to degree pathway in EE or related disciplines. However, I’m aware that it would take minimum 5 years to become a full EE and I’d be 29 by the time I’m finished, and entering the workforce properly. I’m taking a security guard course right now, and figure I’ll do it part time and develop my artistic abilities or go to college( community colleges for those in America and maybe other countries) and do art still but it’s not at the same rate of development.
Potential indicators:
Engineering
-I’m great at math, calculus is awesome -physics is not as strong, mainly speaking at the university level. I couldn’t figure out how one equation turned into another, but I believe this may be because I only have a base understanding of calculus from Calculus and Vectors from high school with a final grade of 86%. I don’t know how much this would impact me though at the community college level at a 3 year course starting form an algebra understanding and ending in 2nd year university level of math and EE concepts and physics.
Art -I’m a natural at it, and develops fast.
Final note: eventually I do want to work for myself, I understand that Artist have to be entrepreneurs. While most EEs end up working for other people, and after around 10 years or so can do consulting. From what I’ve read anyways.
If you’ve gotten this far, thank you and I appreciate any tips.
