My son (native english speaker in the US pacific northwest) is starting kindergarten is a public school that is described as dual language (50/50) but from what I can tell the teacher is teaching spanish immersion (90/10) . Am I right to think there is an important difference? Is there good evidence suggesting that a native english speaker will learn English as well in an immersion program? I am concerned that evidence supporting spanish immersion might be biased. I am fully behind native spanish speakers getting access to the learning environment they do best in and I want my son to learn spanish. What about socially, is it possible or probable that a native english speaker might feel isolated in a program that where most student are native spanish speakers. I'm just worried my son might be disadvantaged in a mostly spanish program.
