I’ve been listening to politicians face questions lately, only to watch them deflect with spin, half-truths, and innuendoes. It raises a deeper unease in me: why are people so uncomfortable with honest questions from individuals simply searching for truth, trying to understand the why? While I’ve written a lot of political pieces lately, this feels more personal, more universal.
As a principal, a teacher, and a writer wrestling with the world’s noise, I’ve spent years teaching students to think critically, to probe deeper, to not settle for surface answers. Yet everywhere I look, questioning feels under siege. Curiosity, once my lifeline, now gets labeled as intrusive, unsafe, even threatening. We’ve traded wonder for defensiveness, and it’s costing us connection, wisdom, self-knowledge.
This three-part series, The Art of Questioning: Reclaiming Curiosity in a Defensive World, is my response. Starting today with Part 1, we’ll journey from the child who asks “why” to the adult who dares to again. I’ll share stories from my life, my classroom, my years learning to stay silent and then unlearning it. My hope is simple: to model a way of questioning rooted in care, not judgment, that helps us know others, the world, and ourselves better.

Am i charging too much for Maths tutoring 25$/hr??
Tive que dar algumas classes em uma turma de crianças e simplesmente elas não tem o mínimo respeito por mim. Elas fizeram o que bem entendiam, além de mal educados e desobedientes.
Me senti muito fracassado. Não querer lhe dar com crianças e jovens me dá um sentimento de culpa e desilusão social, todos devem saber lhe dar com crianças e jovens? Por mim quero abdicar dessa área completamente, e entregar para pessoas que realmente sabem fazer(lógico, não deixaria a educação de de meus próprios filhos)... Mas quero distância dos filhos de outras pessoas, por simples falta de habilidades pedagógicas... Não os odeio de forma alguma, passo horas brincando com algumas crianças, mas ter que monitorar eles em grupo é uma atividade extremamente estressante para mim, que não quero nem pensar em fazer novamente. O que acham? Todos teriam que dividir a educação das crianças, ou posso apenas fazer quando me convém?
Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about education. We spend so many years in school learning stuff, but I’m not sure how much actually helps in real life.
Some things are useful, like basic math and writing. Other things feel pointless or outdated. I see people learning online or on their own and doing great without following the usual path.
