Online degrees

Hey!

I work as an external contractor in IT and one of the things which drives me crazy and totally mad is when despite a proven record of successful projects and a number of won competitions, I'm turned down by HR because I don't have a formal degree.

I wonder whether I can do a degree online, so I can keep working and paying my bills.

I interested in two types of a degree - a total shit as it gets - as HR seems not to care in most cases either way - and an online degree from a recognized university - for the case somebody in HR would bother to read.

Is the later even possible? To get an online degree from an uni such as Standford, MIT, Harvard, ...? Is it even worth it (I mean, won't they dismiss it as soon as they see online and all that afford, time and money will be wasted?)?
