Hello teachers of Reddit! I am emailing professors whose research lab I am interested in to join their lab potentially. I want to present myself as self-starting, hardworking, capable of keeping up with the rest of the team, and able to get the job done. Could you please offer your thoughts to my email below? Is it worded well, too wordy, cocky, etc.? Any and all advice is helpful, thank you so much!!
Dear Professor X,
My name is X, and I am a student at X High School. I am interested in joining your research team as a student researcher; I am strongly interested in biology and machine learning/computer science, and would like to gain a more hands-on experience working with research dealing with fields closely tied to and linking biology and machine learning/computer science. I found out about your lab through your TEDx video discussing applying X to X, and I learned more about the research your lab conducts through your research lab's page. I am a self-starter and will learn any of the pre-requisite and required knowledge to conduct this research on your team, and will work my hardest to keep up with the remainder of the team. Of course, I'll research as a volunteer, and without pay, as the experience itself is very rewarding and enriching.
I would love to discuss more on a form of communication of your choice, at your convenience, of course.
Sincerely,
X
Once again, thank you so much for your help! :))
