I come from Scotland, 1/5th of the kids are below the poverty line and I've met people in fourth and fifth year who do not know basic facts and skills like their time's tables or basic literacy. Poverty, drugs, alcohol and violence are all commonplace here but it is changing. It is sad to see kids not getting these opportunities in life however. Scotland is a first world country, I can't imagine what it must be like being a kid in a place like Somalia and Afghanistan with no access to educational resources. Has anyone been through this sort of experience? I'd like to hear what it was like for you, it's not often I hear these kinds of things 1:1 with people. Usually we only hear about these sorts of issues on TV or charity posters, but very rarely face to face.
