I recently just started working a newly opened youth club that's in an established youth work company in my area and the senior sessions that I'm involved with have no structure to them. The young people just come in a hang out and we are around chatting to them and giving advice on a one to one basis when needed. However this is all we do there's no subject specific sessions or any form of wider development sessions outside of the one to ones. When I asked management about adding some small amount of structure like bringing in a sex ed session or something I was met with placating remarks. I even asked if I could just create a wider range of activities like having board games or a deck of card available for the young people to use I was told that the young people haven't asked for them before so why would they be out. When speaking to other members of staff I'm hearing that they are also getting the same thing with them. I just want to improve the youth club so the young people had a wide range of activities to choose from. I'm all for youth led but it's hard to do it when the young people aren't given any ideas on what they could do. So any advice on how to get my manager to listen to the staff that are working on the front line with the young people.
