Hello educators on reddit!
I am a first generation American high school senior that plans on majoring in Early Childhood Education. I willingly accept the fact that I will not be making much money from this job as teachers are highly underpaid but I am worried about debt. I was recently accepted to a college but received no scholarship at all and this was devastating because I am living in poverty. I have estimated my college tuition would be be around 50k in total for all four years. However, for personal reasons, I want to leave home and attend a state college. This college would cost me about 90k in total. Now enough of the context! I read that your debt should not be higher than your starting salary but clearly that is not possible in my situation.
My questions for you all is:
-
Should I attend the state college even though I will be in much higher debt?
-
How do you all handle the low salary and high student loan debt?
-
Do you have any tips about paying for college, money, etc for someone entering the adult world?
