I’m in a positive/negative grade cycle

-Repost from another subreddit I’m (M19) college student and majoring in physics. I found that I fall into this cycle every school year and it happened this semester too. Basically the cycle starts like this, I do good on a test, I get cocky thinking “I’m really smart” and start to slack off thinking I don’t need to do as much work. I then get a bad grade on the next test. After I get this bad grade I get pissed off at myself and use that anger to study for the next test in the class to prove I can get a better grade. I get a good grade on that test and start to get cocky again then get a bad grade on the next test. Basically I lose motivation after getting a good grade. I know the solution to this is really simple “don’t get cocky and slack off” but I don’t really know how to do that. I want to know if anyone has any good advice on not getting into that cocky mindset so I can consistently get good grades. -Sorry for the bad format/grammar I’m on mobile
