Coming from a former GATE student, the GATE program deserved to go

So I've been seeing lots of fucking idiots online question this decision and arriving at reactionary conclusions. No, there will not be a complete disregard of advanced classes. In fact, the new legislation makes it easier for children to challenge themselves. The previous system we had was extraordinarily segregated based on race. Gifted is defined as 2% of a population in the most, yet Asians made up 33% of that population, and us latinos recieved less than 4%. We have to accept the fact that white and Asian people don't and will never give a shit about Hispanic and latino people. California finally stood up for us and I'm happy about that. Us latinos, the lowest represented yet pay the most taxes in terms of population that go to fund these exclusive white and Asian academic clubs which isn't fair. In my GATE program, I could count on my hands the amount of black people. It was really segregated, and it's removal will be a good thing for all of us.
