Education career options inquiry

Hi everyone,

(I apologize for this post being so long in advance) I’m a rising college senior currently torn between becoming an SLP, SPED teacher, an elementary school teacher, and now an early intervention school psychologist post grad 😭

Junior year I took an Intro to Speech and Hearing course which sparked my interest in SLP. I also like the idea of working in smaller groups with kids and helping them with communication. However, I know that getting into grad school is super competitive and I’m worried I will get rejected from the few schools I plan on applying to.

On the other hand, I took a course in the Education and Psychology of Exceptional Children and I really enjoyed this class too. Broadly, I’m interested in working with kids and have grown an interesting in working with children who are differently abled. So, I’ve been considering becoming a SPED teacher. I haven’t done a ton of research on any masters programs, but for some reason I feel that they aren’t as competitive as SLP schools.

I've always been told I would make a great teacher, so now I am open to being an elementary school teacher (specifically K or 1st). I also just discovered the career- early intervention school psychologist. I have been learning about early intervention a lot this summer in an internship which has changed my perspective on post grad opportunities as well.

I’m torn because I haven’t been able to shadow individuals in these fields and they all allow me to work with kids. I feel some self doubt coming in, and I’m worried I’ll waste time applying to grad schools just to get rejected. I appreciate any advice or comments on this matter.
