High school when it comes to transferring

I plan to transfer by next spring, so spring of 2025. I finished high school this year in September. I was supposed to graduate in 2020, but I got extremely depressed and went through agoraphobia. I was doing an independent school, but COVID happened and everything became very confusing when the school wouldn't tell us anything for a month, and then my laptop broke. My depression just became clinical and I wouldn't be able to get out of bed for months. I gained a lot of weight and my self-esteem was low.
Although I didn't finish high school, I signed up for community college in the Spring of 2021. I've had my fair share of mental breaks, leads to EW's and W's on my transcript. Now, I started competing in track and field and soccer and my mental health has never been better. I surrounded myself with people who supported me and I finally felt less alone. I even finished this past summer semester with a 4.0 and I do plan to finish this semester again, with a 4.0, and the rest of the semesters.
I just have too much anxiety that when I do eventually transfer, they'll see I finished high school in an adult independent school and not accept me due to that. Will my high school affect my chances of being accepted? I plan on going to the Cal States, such as CSUN and Fullerton. My other options are art schools, like CalArts.

AAS to BS

I will be finished with my AAS in information technology in April. I've been looking into getting my bachelors in computer science once this is done. Will my credits be transferable? (Will be at the same school. Just wanting to get my bachelors)

Seen some things about AAS credit not being transferable and im hoping I didn't screw myself over. I go to school online at Purdue Global.

I'm not a fan of school, but if it's another 2 years or so I can manage. But if I'm having to do another 3-4 years of school is it even worth it in the long run? In terms of how much I'll earn with a BS vs the AAS

Edit: Clarification

How to learn effectively

Hello!

I'm currently serving in the military, and have been juggling around subjects to learn about for college. I've run into a sort of mental block, I feel like I can't learn anymore. I used to love it in school, doing tests, having an understanding and solving problems.

Now, I feel like I can't learn anything, that it all goes in one ear and out the other. Currently, I wanted to learn about space, but I feel completely unable to focus. Same goes for every topic. I'm at a loss on what to learn, and have plenty of time to learn but make up the idea in my head that there is none.

I'm not too sure what the issue is, but thought here would be a good place to start (I don't have any ADHD or any learning disabilities that I'm aware of. I was on an IEP until 6th grade)

Seeking Insights on Software and Automation Opportunities

I am conducting some research to identify opportunities for the development of more efficient, user-friendly, and cost-effective software in your sector. I would love to hear your thoughts and experiences on the following points:
1. Expensive Software: What is the most expensive software you are currently using? Is it delivering value proportional to its cost?

  1. Outdated/Inconvenient Software: Have you encountered software that seems outdated or provides a poor user experience? If so, which ones?

  2. Business Problems: Are there any specific problems or pain points in your daily operations that you think could be solved with better software?

  3. Automation Needs: Are there repetitive tasks in your workflow that you think could benefit from automation?

Your insights would be greatly appreciated, and might contribute to the development of new solutions that could make our lives easier!
Thanks in advance!

Teacher interviews

Looking for teachers who enjoy doing their jobs (more than others who had left or are leaving soon or has overall not very good experiences) so can do an informative interview

Does anyone here have blogs (or other sites) where you talk about your experiences in school you work at

I need some way to get the full experience of what teachers experience. So another way is to find a list of specific locations that has teacher assistants so can get the full experience to see if it'd be good to do

Could send a pm/chat if you'll like. Only thing i know is it won't be anywhere that requires getting masters, but someone mentioned in pm/chat that some school district covers a masters but it seems like its very rare or not often and just random in general. Thanks

Seeking Advice: Pursuing an Education in Engineering for a Material Handling Professional

I (m38) currently own a small material handling company with my wife and we often find ourselves outsourcing technical drawings. I am considering pursuing an education in engineering or technical design to gain these skills. I currently have 65 credits (2 yrs) of college with basic math and science. However, due to my work commitments, I am looking for online courses that would allow me to study at my own pace. Could anyone share their experiences or recommendations for online engineering courses that focus on technical drawing? This includes CAD or any other similar software.

Which higher education people help students who are very nontraditional?

older adults, parents, learning disabled, or military are the traditional meanings of nontraditional I saw,

And that I heard from educational consultants or personal cirriculum arrangers.

So I wonder who and where can help more unusual or exceptional mental and social situations?

For example are there advocates for confusingly marginalized students?

I don't mean legal advocates (like legal enforcement of accommodation laws), but for example when accommodation offices are inaccessible generally, or only using a fixed set of accommodations?

(I am maybe clueless how to say some details, because I'm confused how to say them when not with a person like this who might be trustworthy with strange educational discrimination and harrassment),

I love my kids Title 1 funded elemantry school

I believe that Title 1 schools often face unfair judgments. These schools are typically situated in economically disadvantaged areas, providing essential support to students from low-income households. I'm genuinely impressed by the dedication of these schools.

When my daughter struggled with reading, they promptly assessed her and found her eligible for free tutoring. My son, too, faced challenges with speech during his preschool years, and the school took over his therapy when he entered kindergarten, providing him with the necessary support during school hours.

My oldest child is a shining example of what these schools can achieve. She consistently earns excellent grades, and her teacher even nominated her for a Young Scholars program at our local university. The nomination process is the only way to apply, and if she graduates with a Regents diploma, she'll gain automatic admission to the university along with a scholarship.

Furthermore, the school is going the extra mile by offering monthly parenting classes on various topics this year. They also provide access to a band program, allowing children to explore their musical talents with free access to instruments. In our economically challenged city, free lunch and breakfast are available to all students, showcasing the tangible impact of Title 1 funding.

What is the most difficult obstacle you had faced when writing an essay?

What are some methods that helped you out with academic writing?

Was there anything (not related to writing) that help you write more efficient?

Is planning out each section of your essay more effective than just sitting down and writing everything in one go?

Need opinion on appropriateness of a teacher’s sign off

Hi, I work in a public adult high school, and I have a colleague who regularly signs off their emails with “by His grace.” I feel like that’s weird given we are a public school, but whatever.

Well, I just realized they sign all of their emails and posts to students the same way. I feel like this is inappropriate, but maybe my disdain for organized religion is clouding my judgement.

Thoughts?

For context: I’m at a verrrry diverse school in CA.

Need recommendations for (post-high school) academic programs with most, if not all, work focused "inside the classroom"

I have no idea how to search for such a thing, but is anyone aware of any post-high school academic programs focused on hands-on learning or mastery learning with little to no homework, with the bulk of the work happening during the sessions themselves?

I imagine some trade programs are an opportunity here but I'm especially interested in hearing about non-trade options. . . ideally something in computer-based areas of study.

(Background: our 20-year old son, who is incredibly smart and gravitates toward computer science subjects, has some significant executive functioning / processing / organization issues he's working around. He achieves much greater success in the classroom than outside of it and we're trying to find something besides a traditional college program that could be a better fit for how his mind works.)

Practical Education through video stories

Hi, I has an idea for education for children to learn practical topics like business, finance, stock market etc through video stories. There are many online excellent educational platforms for free. However most of them are classes which are taught in schools not so much like how to start a business or how the stock market works etc. The educational apps which teach these practical topics are mostly classes taught by a teacher. It is rare to find an educational app which is a story in a film but subliminally teaches finance or stocks etc to the students. I wrote a basic script on how the video would work. I was wondering if this exists and if it would help education for children to learn these practical topics.

Polarization is hurting American public education.

One of the most important services a government can provide is public education. In fact, analyses of US history show that as suffrage spread down the rungs of American society, one of the first things voters vote for is public education. Widespread public education was key to the United States' development as a world-leading economy and stable democracy. Now public education is the newest and one of the most consequential victims of the polarization of American politics. Recent policy changes in Florida and California demonstrate how polarization and culture wars are making for bad education policy.

Elementary school with no walls

Anyone have experience with schools that only use short dividers/bookshelves to divide the “classrooms”. I’ve never heard of such a thing and recently learned the school in the town im moving to lacks walls. District is not rated great (this is a C school) but I at least assumed there would be walls. I assume its very difficult for teachers to provide a distraction-free environment for children in this kind of set up. Am I crazy or is this really a thing? Anyone have experience working in this type of environment or have children who have attended a school like this? Im very curious about what to expect and want to understand. Thanks!

Self plagiarism

I’m retaking a class I took my sophomore year of college. The class is your standard” career development” course. Ignoring the fact that this course is a complete utter waste of time for me in particular ( I already have multiple job opportunities lined up post college and know what I want to do) I’m running into a self plagiarism issue. I re submitted an interview I did a year and a half ago for this professional interview. My professor is saying it’s plagiarism and he must report this to the dean of academic misconduct. I’m a senior in my second to last semester, what should I do about this, and is this “self plagiarism” concept actually applicable to any sort of real world scenario, or is it just there to make me do more busy work?

My 9-year-old son wants to learn the guitar, so I decided to buy him a Ukulele as a starting point. I thought the small size of the Ukulele would be easier for him to handle, and he can transition to the guitar later if he wants to. The only issue is that neither of us knows how to play any instrument. My son doesn't have much music knowledge, except that he enjoys singing. I’m not an expert but I feel he’s not gifted in music and his pitch might not be very accurate. I'm planning to visit a musical instrument store to inquire about Ukulele teachers. Scientific Method of Teaching in Class

The process of observing, asking questions, and seeking answers through tests and experiments is not unique to any one field of science. In fact, the scientific method is applied broadly in science, across many different fields. Many empirical science, especially the social sciences, use mathematical tools borrowed from probability theory and sciences, together with outgrowths of these, such as decision theory, gave theory, utility theory, and operations research.

The scientific method is critical to the development of scientific theories. In a typical application of the scientific method, a researcher develops a hypothesis and test it through various means. Then if the hypothesis is correct so it is made theory and at the end conclusion is defined.

A teacher can give knowledge very Cleary and for long term through this method. It is a way which is a learning process freely. Student learns everything through experiment.

Advice on pursuing a second degree..

Hey everybody, not sure if these sort of posts are welcome in the sub. Last year I received my BS in political science and a minor in psychology, two fields I was totally fascinated with and intended to pursue further in grad school despite my ultimate GPA being a disappointing 2.9. With that said, I find myself in a position where I'm underqualified for jobs in the policy/outreach/nonprofit/legislative spheres (don't ask me why I'm surprised) and don't meet the admission requirements for any grad school I've explored. I've also considered working toward a second undergrad in a different field. Should I just move on for now? Are there other options for continuing my education that I'm unaware of? Thanks in advance.

What are your favorite shows with a school setting?

I have a few personally. I love the new-ish show Abbott Elementary and looking forward to the new season. About teachers in the Philadelphia hood just wanting to teach.

I love the show Head of the Class which is a show from the 80s about high school students and their lives. It talks a lot about the issues in schools.

21 Jump Street, the 80s show with Johnny Depp. Pretty much the same thing as the movies but a drama version. Undercover police officers in high schools and colleges.

Saved By The Bell is okay but pretty cliche. Enjoyable show tho. About high school students and their lives.

Boy Meets World, about childhood friends being raised together and what they go through with their lives. Not exclusively about school, they spend a lot of time showing their journey through grade school (middle school and high school) and college. One of my favorite shows.

Zoey 101, a mid 2000s show about high school students at a private California school going through their teen years. Another favorite.

Degrassi: The Next Generation/Degrassi, a show from the early 2000s which went on for awhile. Used to be one of my favorites. There's a few different variations/reboots. About high school students going through their high school lives. Very diverse storyline and cover a lot of issues (like Head of the Class and 21 Jump Street does).

Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide. Another legendary show I love. Almost mid 2000s. About a kid in middle school (or high school?) that gives advice on going through school in a comedy way.

I know there's probably a few more I can't think of at the moment that I enjoy watching. What about y'all?

I have a 7th grade reading level in the 9th grade.

Hello, I'm currently a freshman in high school. I have a 7th grade reading level. I failed the FAST test in the winter and the spring in 8th grade for ela reading which caused me to get into "intensive reading". This class is specifically for kids who failed the FAST, had bad ela grades in the past, or both. I'm only in here because I failed the FAST 2/3 times last year. Before 8th grade, my reading level was average to good. My 8th grade ELA teacher did not teach at all which caused me to be stuck at a 7th grade level. Intensive reading is filled with dangerous kids who do drugs, talk horribly to the teacher, etc. My teacher is nice but the kids in the class are not in general. My ELA teacher said I can get out of the class mid way through the year BUT I must show 9th grade level on two tests (a mid 3 on the winter FAST, ANS 1050 on achieve3000). I passed the recent FAST at the beginning of the school year with a low 3 but I need to improve. Please give me suggestions on how to improve. My ELA teacher now teaches good which is helping me but I need more advice. Intensive reading has helped me but I need to get out of it as it is not ideal to get into top colleges and universities.

P.S. Apparently the FAST Tests in 10th grade determine if we can graduate or not so...

Are students struggling now more than ever? If so, why do you think that is? Have kids shared potential reasons why?

I've seen a lot of videos on tiktok from educators, along with 2 of my teacher friends, stating their students are extremely behind, that it is no longer a small percentage of the class. Is this a national issue? They were talking about how their literacy and math scores are extremely low. Incredibly concerning in the age of misinformation & propaganda.

If true, why do you think there are more students struggling, what do you think the primary cause is? Have the students themselves said why they are having such a hard time? I understand covid could have affected things for a time, and issues with being defunded, but I'm hearing even juniors in high school are struggling to write 2 paragraphs, which is WILD to hear. I graduated in 2010, and I'm just genuinely curious how things could have gone so bad so fast.

I want to help teach my 6-year-old nephew to read. Help?

I am sorry if this is the wrong sub. I just was not sure where to ask this question. My nephew is 6-years-old and last week he asked me to read to him for the first time in a while. I read him his book "There was an Old Lady who swallowed Fly Guy" and when I was done he asked me to read it again and I decided he should try to read it. I was surprised when he could not read any of the words. I know he is 6 and I know at that age kids have varying skills when it comes to reading, but I am honestly pretty concerned about it. He is in first grade and I just feel like he should recognize words like "had". I know his parents are not doing any teaching at home, if they are it is not consistent. I really want my nephew to be able to read, he loves being read to and I think he is struggling with recognizing words and needs some extra help.

Right now I am considering buying the book "teach your child to read in 100 easy lessons". Issue is at best I only see my nephew twice a week, the last two months I have only seen him a handful of times. I feel like using this book would require seeing him more and working with him more, but his mom will not do it and his dad only has him Friday-Sunday. I just wonder if it will work if I only see him once a week maybe twice.

I just wonder in my situation if this is a good way to help him or if there is a better option. I am trying to talk to my brother to figure out what is going on in class and see if I can work off that to help him.

I am just looking for any advice on helping my nephew. Any books, videos, or resources that can help me help him. This little dude got so genuinely angry and frustrated when he tried to read, I was sounding out the sight words and he still was not understanding and when I finally said the word all together he would get so upset with himself and I hate seeing that. He is in no way dumb, I think he is just really struggling with reading and I just really want to help him.

How to educate visually sharp children?

My 9-year-old son has a remarkable ability to observe things. Whether we are visiting a zoo or simply walking down the street, he is always the first to spot hidden animals or notice something unusual. I want to nurture his talent and guide him towards hobbies or skills that can potentially turn into a future career or capability. I am considering options like painting, exploring, piloting, military service, photography, or even doctor. But I’m not sure. Quite to the contrary, I’m very slow in observing. I cannot spot a friend in the street nor find a small frog in the grass. So I am surpirsed when my son can do it easily.

Have any of you had similar experiences? I would greatly appreciate any advice or insights you can share!

Questions about education in the US

I am working on a paper which is about a comparison of education in China and in the US. I am familiar with China’s education but not American education before college.

So Here are my questions: 1. State governments decide curriculum right? Teachers or schools decide what textbooks they use? 2. Schools themselves, regardless public or private, decide how many or what students can get in right? 2. What classes are mandatory and what classes are selective? Different schools might have different classes right? How much leeway do students have in terms of learning what they like? Do all the classes share the same Weigh in terms of GPA? 3. Are teachers the sole judge of the academic performance of students? What guarantees teachers will not lay back? Are teachers required to attend some kind of conference or learning sessions to ensure their “education quality”?( this is required in China)

Should I think twice before pursuing a double degree

This may sound silly, but I’m considering this purely for my passion in science, and in particular health and medical science, I’m not too interested in trading my life away to do medicine, I’m happy with a career that starts 70-90k (AUD) and then gradually progress from there hopefully. But I feel as if there is not much opportunity to do so with just a bachelor of medical science or something like biotech/genetics, whereas there is more opportunity to learn what I like while getting some kind of good job after uni if I do a double with data analytics or commerce, which would push my studies from 3 to 4 years. can someone please give some feedback?

Called into office today during my first 40 days of a new job

Hi everyone,

Some background information first. This is my 4th year teaching special education. I recently got a new job at a therapeutic Autism day school. I am a male teacher.

Basically, I got called into the office today for a few reasons. First, a kid quietly eloped out of the cafeteria when I had my back turned to help another student and he ended up in the hallway by his locker. Second, I went in the wrong gender bathroom during a field trip because at our school it’s unisex. (This one is technically my fault) Third, I basically asked my staff in my room questions about how to deal with each of the students behavior since I am so new to the classroom. Finally, my instructional coach did NOT like my lessons as I supposedly didn’t differentiate them based on student abilities. Now I have to send her all my lesson plans every week. Luckily this is the first warning so it was only a verbal but I’m getting some bad feelings. Keep in mind that our school also is short staffed.

What do you guys think and what do I do?

Questions for Educators from a College student

Hello educators of Reddit! I am a current college student trying to understand some things about the current education system (specifically of the US, but others are wonderful as well) as I am trying to make children's book/educational products to assist parents and teachers (think something like Bluey but more educational and interactive). I have been running some surveys in schools, and today I received some feedback on my survey that this highschool-aged child didn't learn how to read until 5th grade. I find that very alarming, and I would just like to know if this is the reality of the American education system?
Here are some of my questions for those willing to answer:

  1. Are your students struggling to learn and comprehend topics? Why do you think this is and do schools provide you any assistance with these issues or is the support abysmal?
  2. Are there things children are not learning in schools that you think there should be supportive external curriculum for? I have heard they are cutting things like Home-education classes in school, is this true, and if so what do you think?
  3. Do you think post-COVID schooling is dramatically different? Are there any issues you have been facing?
  4. Are your student's parents proactive in helping their child's learning? Or are they detached, and is there a reason why?
  5. How negatively do you think hyper-stimulating things such as Cocomelon and TikTok effect kids?

You don't have to answer all of these! Just what you feel like you know about. Anything is super helpful to me, thank you! And if this isn't allowed in this Sub please let me know. :)

Confusion on US colleges vs Asian colleges

Hey everyone,
I've been wrestling with a thought lately, and I'd love to get your insights on it. I'm trying to figure out the differences in opportunities between US college graduates and their foreign counterparts.
Specifically, I'm interested in understanding how students who have completed their education at prestigious Asian universities like Tohoku University, KAIST, Hanbin Tech, etc., compare to those who graduated from tier 2 or 3 liberal arts colleges such as Colby, FandM, Carleton, and others.
I'm curious about who might have the upper hand, especially when it comes to pursuing graduate programs in the United States or Europe. If any of you have faced a similar dilemma or have expertise in this area, I'd greatly appreciate your insights.
And here's the kicker: let's assume the cost is the same across the board. If you were in my shoes, which one would you choose?
thankuuuu.

Return to classroom impact on student wellbeing

Hello educators! I’m a researcher aiming to delve into how a return to “normalcy” —in person teaching post widespread pandemic school closures—may or may not impact overall student wellbeing. There is a wealth of research illustrating learning loss and harmful psychological impacts of COVID 19 related disruptions in children’s lives. It seems guidance suggests continuing regular routine can mitigate harmful psychological effects of traumatic events in children’s lives. Is there robust research uncovering if/how a return to in person classes impacts children?

Thanks in advance!

  • Are there any games that have particularly stood out to you in terms of fostering understanding and love for math?
  • Do they align with certain curriculum standards or are they more for fun and practice?
  • How did you find them?

Is school based on freedom?

Hi, i am in school to become a teacher in the danish "folkeskole" which is the school that almost all kids go to from the ages around 6-16. Today one of my fellow students said that folkeskole to her represented freedom. My immediate reaction was that i definitely didn't agree, but when we were having a conversation about it i was struggling to figure out why i felt that way. Maybe it is based on my own experience in school where i personally didn't feel free to be myself. I also totally understand and agree with education being something that can help many people to become more free. Although i think education can happen in so many different ways and not necessarily in schoolsystems the way we mostly think of education. I think maybe the education you get in school is something that makes you more free, but the schools as simultaneously limiting and conforming you. Of course freedom is also a strange concept that is difficult to define and probably means something different to each of us. What do you guys think?

Uni options outside of Oxbridge

Hi, I'm a year 12 student whose in a rather awkward position. I maybe can make it into Oxbridge, but it is not a gauranteed thing (maybe 1/3-1/2 chance). If I don't get in however the top uni in my country is quite mediocre. So I'm looking for suggestions to bridge that gap in the unis I should be looking to apply to. I don't think I have the extracurriculurs to get into good US unis, so that's out of the picture. However, I can't think of any other unis that have the name brand of Oxbridge/ivy leagues.

Currently, because I want to work there in the future, I am considering Moscow State University or the Higher School of Economics, both in Russia. However I am looking for suggestions of unis outside Russia (preferably in anglosphere/sinosphere because those are the languages I currently speak) with as good/better reputation in Russia that is not Oxbridge/Ivy

If anyone has experience with Qinghua or Beijing University I'd also like to hear your opinions. Apparently they have a separate degree system for foreign students that are less rigorous/looked down upon? Should that be a red flag?

SoCal - Charter school or magnet school resources for Pre & elementary, middle, high school

Not sure if this is the right place to post...

I have a 14 month old in day care. My sister-in-law has 3 kids 7, 9, 10, the 2 oldest are gifted and will be in STEM magnet schools for middle and high school. SIL found the programs through a co-worker.

I'd like to get my child into a STEM-focused school when she gets of age. I'd like to learn more about STEM magnet/charter school programs in my area (SoCal). Is there a good resource to find out which schools offer these programs?

There are local schools we definitely do not want to send our child. I understand there may be waiting lists, so I want to be prepared in the years to come to give my kiddo a good educational experience.

Needing to interview an actively teaching K-12 teacher for a class assignment

I am currently pursuing a Bachelors in Elementary Education online and my current class has an assignment where I need to interview an active K-12 classroom teacher.

The guidelines are very specific and say it cannot be a retired teacher, any transitional school teacher (like pre-K), and cannot be any type of paraprofessional.

If there is anyone that would be open to answering the questions and providing minimal personal info please let me know! I'll be happy to DM them and you can take your time to read over and respond.

The questions for the assignment are mostly centered around classroom teaching and state standards. If anyone wants I can post them in a comment below.

The requirement of proof includes first and last time, school, current grade you are teaching, etc. (Which is why I have had a hard time finding a willing candidate) I will not be keeping this information, it just has to go on a pdf for the assignment.

I’ve been sick missing school and I don’t know what to do.

My homework is piling up, and I'm going back to school tomorrow with two tests to take. My school has a rule where if you're absent for more than two weeks, they lower your grade. I don't think it's fair because I can't help it if I get really sick. I had a blood test today to figure out what's wrong, but I don't know how to handle all this work I have to catch up on, in addition to the upcoming tests. If someone can offer some help or advice I would appreciate it a lot. I’ve been out for a little over a week.

Can school keep me out?

Hello! For the past week I’ve been fainting randomly at my high school and one time outside of school. I went to the ER twice and they tell us nothing is wrong. I have to wait a few days too see my pediatrician again. Last time I saw my pediatrician she said everything was fine but then I fainted again so my mom got an appointment with a different one and is hoping to see if they suggest anything. More important information is that last year I had various panic attacks that where really bad like I couldn’t respond or move bad and while those where related to my mental health the current fainting has nothing to do with it. I consulted with my therapist and she dosent believe it’s mentally related and neither do I. Whenever I faint I feel fine at max 10 minutes later I just need some time to reciprocate. Their telling me I can’t come back unless I get another doctors note and their not letting me go back to class after I recover. I know it’s bad and can get the school in trouble if I get injured but I don’t want to keep missing class. So can they actually keep me out is this legal? I have to wait for medical testing but what if that’s takes too long? I mean I don’t love school but my education is important to me I want to graduate and there’s no way I can if I keep being absent.

I feel like I have lost my motivation to study ( 20 year old )

So this year I dropped out of engineering because of having 14 back subjects ( I could never clear them so I just gave up after trying, maths was the hardest and couldn't do all of the subjects along with it )

Now I have taken up B.S.C in computer science, however I don't feel like attending college because of bad mental health, so I took a break for 1 and a half month, and now I'm going to start attending again and give the final exams, I don't feel the same fun that I used to have while studying, I have wasted 2 years in engineering and I'm 20 now. Can you cheer me up to study properly again, I don't know what's wrong with me? I also have a severe stammering problem that makes me self doubt myself.

My previous qualifications - 10th = 72% , 12th ( science ) = 76%

Can someone help me?

New to Student Loans, is it a Scam?

Okay first off I know close to nothing about student loans, but I keep hearing a bunch of people saying how it's a scam and how the entire student loan system is corrupt. I already have all the money I have to pay for university, the reason I am getting a student loan is because I can keep my money in investments while paying the loan, that way I actually earn more then I would if I paid in full. So there is no possibility I can end up in debt, the problem is, is there anything that causes it to be worst in the end or am I being too paranoid about it?

Seeking Teachers' Opinion on the Idea of Auto-Generated Project-Based Homework Assignments

Dear Educators,

I'm exploring the concept of a tool that automatically generates project-based homework assignments within various topics to save teachers time and enhance student engagement. Also, projects are much more difficult to solve using something like Chatgpt.

I would be really curious to know - do you think this could be a beneficial tool in a classroom setting?
Are there any features that would make this more practical for both teachers and students?

Thank you for your insights!

Now what?

Now what?!

I taught emotional support for 6 years. I’m very good it, but last year was very difficult. My health was the biggest issue as I was dealing with GI issues pretty much on a daily basis. We were also very short staffed all year, and in March I wound up taking 6 high school students on top of my 6 middle school students to finish out the year.

I put in for a transfer to a new program, as did many of my coworkers. Weeks went by and I didn’t hear anything. Others had meetings and got their transfers, so I reached out to HR to see what was going on. HR responded and said they were planning on getting a hold of me that day and said my transfer request was denied.

I was still in the thick of my GI issues with no answers and I was the only teacher set to return. I decided I couldn’t risk it and resigned at the end of the school year.

Many of my coworkers tried to talk me out, and my supervisor said I could come back if I wanted. Even now, I’m getting texts from parents and coworkers to come back.

Over the summer, I got my health issues sorted out and started therapy again. By August I felt the best I’ve felt in a long time. I was starting to regret leaving, but chalked it up to nerves. However, I realized quickly after starting my new job that it wasn’t right.

I reached out to my old supervisor and she told me to submit an application. So I did. They put me through the traditional 3 round interview process, which surprised me, but I did very well. After the 3rd, they asked if they could reach out to my current supervisor. I said yes but requested they wait until after 2 to send it so I could talk to her first. Lunch rolls around, and my supervisor angrily confronted me about it. I tried to explain myself, but she was very mad.

The next day I get an email saying they decided to “go in another direction.” I don’t know this for sure, but I hear they don’t even have other applicants at this point.

Now I’m stuck in a job I don’t like with a supervisor that thinks poorly of me.

Do I have a right to feel burned? What would you say to your current supervisor in this situation?

What interventions or studies are there on teaching students to vary their answers?

Hi I am looking for research and studies on varied responding, as in giving alternative form versions of the same answer E.g. you ask a child "what is the man wearing? " And they say "a blue shirt. " however, the next time you ask they may pick to talk about pants or something else appropriate and accurate not just default to shirt if they're wearing a shirt.

How do you teach young students to vary their responses, give alternative explanations? Use their own words instead of just rote or copied responses?

Specifically looking for key words from the field of education to look up in databases, research articles or teaching intervention studies.

Thanks!

What are your thoughts on Charter Schools?

I went to my towns public school and found it to be a terrific experience. In the past I have always thought that the Charter School or School Choice movement was directing public resources away from Public Schools and damaging to the educational system more broadly. That said other than my personal experience in public school and the articles I have read I have no particular evidence or expertise one way or the other.
In your opinion as educators do Charter Schools improve the education system more broadly? Do they sap resources from Public Schools? Do you support school choice or not? Thank you very much for any replies, I care very deeply about education and want to know more about this issue before voting on it.

ASKING FOR STRAIGHT A’s

Hello everyone,

I am a mother to a 7 year old in third grade. Her report card last year was horrifying and i am committed in investing the necessary tools: time and resources to ensure her grades are good.

Unfortunately, at times i felt like her teachers were grading her based on her behaviour ( she has ADHD and was unmedicated last year) rather than her actual work but thats just my thinking.

I want to send an email to her teacher along the lines of “HOW CAN MY DAUGHTER GET STRAIGHT A’s?” ( jks lool) but more like “HOW CAN MY DAUGHTER ACADEMICALLY SUCEED IN YOUR CLASS?”

is it appropriate to send an email? Is it okay to ask about the grading method? Like ask for the assessment criteria and ask to see the work that is being used for the grading scheme? I believe if i did that last year her grades would have been better because on her tests she would score super high but that wasnt being reflected on the report cards.

All advice welcomed. Thank you so much.

33F with dyslexia- in need of tips on how to memorize as a visual learner?

School was difficult for me. I tried SO hard. I did alright, mostly low Bs and Cs though.

I am a very kinesthetic and visual learner. I also need a lot of context to learn something in order to pull together a story in my head that supports the main fact I am trying to remember (if that make sense).

What is a tried and true way for someone like me to finally be able to memorize something? For instance, I am ashamed to say that I can't for the life of me remember the states on a blank map. I could do about 15 correctly but only have the general idea for the rest. I'm still mortified by the fact that I put Portugal somewhere random in 10th grade (it was a European map, but still, mortified).

I have this DESPERATE desire for knowledge but it just seems so unattainable. A total waste of time without the proper tools. I have this deep interest in health, but can barely remember what I learned in order to carry on a conversation without saying something along the lines of "There is this...thing that carries the blood...to the..nevermind" lol

Thank you so much.

Choosing between Trent and Lakehead for an AQ

I'm most interested in Trent and Lakehead because they're cheaper and I've heard good things about both, but I still can't decide. There's more information about Trent but the Lakehead one allows a long timeframe for completion which could be helpful for the courseload. Any input from teachers in Ontario would be appreciated!

Why are children being put into esol when they only know English?

I’d been told that in select states, it is policy for a child with bilingual parents or families who state parents can speak another language at home. However, there was a student who was put into esol even after parents noted that they only speak English at home. The parents weren’t born in the U.S. but left at a very young age so they only understand English. I think that’s just racist as basing off looks. I known a bunch of esol classes where 99% of the class only speaks English aside from a select few students who speak a little bit of another language, as 99% of the class was born in the U.S. Speaking a little bit of another language still isn’t English for speakers of other languages. I teach Vietnamese to Vietnamese American students and we have students who are trying to learn Vietnamese so they can communicate with family but they were still put into esol. I’ve had classmates who had to wait to take classes like Spanish because ESOL used up their elective space and they wanted to take classes like Spanish so they could communicate with family. Since when did ESOL turn into having such a big turn out of students who only know English.

End the Homework Burden on Children - Restore Childhood and Strengthen Families!

Please sign my petition on Change dott orgg and share on all platforms. Thank you. PM me if you want a direct link. The forum will not allow me to post here.

The title of the petition is "End the Homework Burden on Children - Restore Childhood and Strengthen Families!" and can easily be found on Change.

"As a concerned parent, I am deeply troubled by the excessive amount of homework assigned to children, which is placing an overwhelming burden on their young shoulders. This petition aims to address the detrimental effects of homework on children's well-being and advocate for a more balanced approach to education that respects their right to be kids.

My child, who is just 8 years old, spends countless hours each week completing homework assignments. It breaks my heart to see her overwhelmed with stress and robbed of precious time that should be dedicated to exploring her interests, playing with friends, or simply enjoying childhood. The pressure she faces at such a tender age is not only unfair but also counterproductive in fostering a love for learning.

Research consistently shows that excessive homework has adverse effects on children's mental health and overall development. According to a study conducted by Stanford University in 2014 (source: Cooper et al., "Does Homework Improve Academic Achievement?"), excessive amounts of homework can lead to increased stress levels, sleep deprivation, anxiety disorders, and even depression among students.

Furthermore, numerous studies have highlighted how heavy homework loads contribute significantly to family stress levels. A report published by the American Psychological Association (APA) in 2015 (source: "Stress in America™: Paying With Our Health") revealed that parents often experience high levels of stress due to their children's academic demands. This strain can lead to strained relationships within families as parents struggle between supporting their child's education and maintaining work-life balance.

It is essential for our educational system to recognize these concerns and prioritize the well-being of our children above all else. By reducing or eliminating excessive homework assignments for young students like my daughter:

We can restore childhood by allowing kids ample time for playfulness, creativity, physical activity, and social interactions.

We can alleviate the stress and anxiety that burdens our children, fostering a healthier mental state and enhancing their overall well-being.

We can strengthen family bonds by reducing the strain on parents, enabling them to spend quality time with their children and nurture a supportive environment.

Let us work together to create an educational system that values holistic development, where children are encouraged to explore their passions, develop critical thinking skills, and cultivate a love for learning without sacrificing their childhood or tearing families apart.

I urge education policymakers, school administrators, teachers' associations, and all stakeholders involved in shaping our children's future to take immediate action. Let's prioritize the well-being of our young learners by reevaluating homework policies and implementing more balanced approaches to education.

Sign this petition today if you believe it is time to end the homework burden on children. Together we can restore childhood joy while strengthening families!

Thank you for your support!"

What course/profession should i pursue?

I have very few years left before i go to college but I'm still not sure what course I should take.So I'd like to use this as a reference as to what course i should take. I'm currently studying in the Philippines in a STEM strand. I'd say I'm good at math and science in general and I don't necessarily have any hobbies that can help decide a job. I'd like a job that could get me to live comfortably (maybe travel abroad and buy things I want). So what course/profession should i consider?

wrong master or just right?

Dear people,

So I am a dutch university student and I just started my masters in Supply Chain Management after I finished my bachelor's in International Business. However, I am semi-interested in the jobs that I can get after my masters, and so I am doubting whether this is what I want to do for the rest of my workdays. My question being: When I get a masters in supply chain management, is there an opportunity that I can get jobs that are not necessarily super connected to supply chain management but are related to the same industry, like marketing or corporate consultancy (non-scm related stuff)? I am asking this because I heard that a lot of people eventually end up in a different job than that they originally studied for.

I really have to finish my master, since, financially wise, I can't afford a do-over. I am just stressing a bit about how definitive my choice is.

hope you all have a wonderful day and thank you for granting me some of your time.

edit: It's not that I foresaw this on forehand en still enrolled, my master just shows that it is a lot of analytical mathematical skills while I enjoy being an extravert using my people skills :)

Drop out, GED and community college -> state school?

Hello. I am 18 and moved to the USA last year. My entire life I was homeschooled because I have autism and dealt with extreme isolation, educational neglect and a lot of abuse. Because my parents are seperated, only my mom came to the USA. I went with her because my dad was threatening to murder us and it became an extreme situation. My entire life past the age of 10, no one cared about my school, especially because I'm a girl in Pakistan. The expectation was that they would say I was homeschooled and that I'd married etc whatever my education. Regardless I decided I value education and did my IGCSEs, or the five minimum you need to pass. I got straight As in all of them. (A* actually, in O levels, in case any british or formerly colonized by the british are reading)

Now I have to go to public school. But before this, I got to leave the house maybe once a week or less and only to get groceries. No friends, no meeting family, nothing. Now with my history of abuse and educational neglect, I attempted suicide and was put in psychiatric facility. I feel like I NEED to drop out of public highschool. I am so depressed that I constantly daydream about acquiring a shotgun or some SN, if you know what I mean. (for myself only.)

So is it okay to drop out of highschool? I have panic attacks around people and I haven't even adjusted to the country. I am very academically talented which I am lucky for, but due to being autistic my social skills are in the negatives. The trauma makes it worse, so does the cultural barrier.

If I drop out, take the GED, go to CC and then state school will I be okay? My family cannot afford better than community college anyway, so it would be the same with my diploma and I'm super sure that if I taught myself from grade 5 to joining junior year in highschool I can handle community college no problem. So can I take a short break and do that? My circumstances are kind of horrible and I'm very driven since I took my O levels completely on my own and have always been putting myself through education. No one around me cares at all. So I KNOW I wouldn't "not take it" because I KNOW that I push myself as far as I can. This is just too far for my unique circumstances, in my opinion.

Right now it feels like I can't deal with new country, seeing people who are so lucky who also sort of bully me, and dealing with everyday noise and chatter. I am really thinking of killing myself everyday but I'd much rather go to college.

I also have a 31 on the ACT which I can probably raise a few points on because I tried to skip that ACT. They had me take it absolutely unprepared.

Pennsylvania Traunt laws

So to keep this brief, i go to highschool in Pennsylvania, im currently 16, and my parents have booked tickets out of country for a 2 month period from October to December to visit relatives. I obviously do not want to go, its gonna completely fuck up my school life, since I just transferred here. But I was wondering legally are they gonna be able to pull it off?

Pennsylvania is already very strict with missing school days, but how can my parents pull of two whole months out of country? I'm sure they're gonna make up bs about a terminally ill family memeber, but I doubt that gets me two months approved. And if the school asks for the ticket info and shit they'll see it was booked wayyy in advance. Any thoughts?

Advice for seeking a master's degree in biology with a psychology / philosophy bachelor's

Hello all, I'm looking for advice / best practices for how I should approach my goal. I have a bachelor's degree in psychology and philosophy from a good state school in Massachusetts, completed in 2018. I graduated with a 3.6 GPA, assisted in a pretty significant amount of lab research, earned an award, and won a slot in a very competitive internship. I took my analytical skillset from research and became a business analyst for a number of reasons.

My passion is for biology, so I would like to earn a master's degree in biology. I have been told / seen discussion indicating that it is not wise to earn a second bachelor's degree, and that I should pursue a master's degree in biology instead, taking pre-requisite courses to catch me up on topics that I would not have covered in my undergraduate psychology / philosophy education.

Has anyone here gone either of these paths, earning a separate bachelor's degree or earning a master's degree in a different field? If so, I would greatly appreciate any advice and experiences you've had doing this. I find the concept a bit daunting, and I want to make sure that I proceed in the best way possible. My goal is to perform biology research in my field of interest, so I want to be as competitive and well-planned as I can be, working with what I have.

Community College...

I think I'm going to Community College after this semester finished...

Hey everyone, hope everyone's days are going well!

Right now I'm in a liberal art university. Been here for a couple weeks. Thinking of finishing the semester or just dropping soon. Still gotta pay the first semester bill. Which is 11k. Already payed like 5k of that and waiting for third party to pay the rest. Gonna save up again and wait for next year.

Was going to be a teacher. But honestly, I don't think it's worth it anymore. With all the schooling and possible debt. Thinking of going for accounting, Cybersecurity, police officer, some trades, nursing, it stuff. Just something that pays the bills and funds what I want to do.

So any tips or advice, in regards to this possible choice?

Desperate For Help in my Education Journey

Hi, I am 33F and am so frustrated with my education and feel helpless. This is long but I am desperate for someone to read my story and offer any guidance or suggestions. I need help.

I had a terrible educational background, outdated Christian schooling (example: we would learn about missionaries instead of social studies), I did this program till 2nd grade and joined public school, I did well and loved it. My parents then entered a Christian cult and I was taken out of school for all of 3rd grade (they wanted the females in this cult to be raised to be stay at home mothers and not educated apparently). My parents got out of this cult then put me back into the same terrible Christian school. I did this till 7 grade when I went to a better Christian school with modern education. We then moved, I entered a terrible charter school for 8th grade, the teachers did not care. My 9th - 10th grade I entered a regular public school. I was so behind because of my education that I dropped out at 10th grade. I then eventually started homeschooling with the first outdated Christian schooling program I start school with and graduated. But that graduation means nothing as it was outdated schooling. I have tried going through college throughout the years but have not been successful with it. I am now 33 and want to accomplish getting at minimum my associates. It has been hell trying to do this. I am taking care of my 11 year old son alone (ironically he is extremely gifted and is taking 9th grade math & science, very proud to say that) and working full time. I am trying to focus on this these college classes but it's overwhelming as I am busy and also missing so much information from my terrible schooling. Is there hope for me? I have huge learning gaps. I am in the lowest remedial classes and still not getting it. This is in reference in particular to Math. I believe that I have math dyslexia, I am very firm on my belief. It is expensive to get tested so I am just toughing it out. Does anyone have advice, any resources or even encouraging words for me? I'm having a bit of a breakdown over my schooling and I am reaching out for any help.

Thank you for reading this, it is appreciated.

TLDR: I have a terrible educational background and need resources to get through my math courses, I also believe I have math dyslexia.

Smartphone as a remote control for slides?

Hey there, everyone!

I've got this kind of weird question, and I'm hoping you can help me out. Well, I was wondering if there's, like, this app for Android phones that turns your phone into, like, a remote control for slides and stuff. You know what I mean?

Let me break it down for you. I'm in school, and I gotta show my classmates these interactive slides. Usually, I'd use this little clicker thing that's connected to the school computer, and it shows everything on the big screen. But guess what? That clicker's gone kaput!

So, I was thinking, maybe I could use my phone as a stand-in clicker until I score a new one. But if you've got any other brainy ideas, I'm all ears!

I really hope you can help me out, and thanks a million in advance!

Thinking about going back to school at 26

So I just officially finished my masters in music. I’ve basically been out of school for over a year and it’s been hard. During my undergrad I developed an unknown neurological disorder that only got diagnosed recently. I was doing a better with treatment but then I got covid and I’ve been knocked back to square one. The condition I have makes it hard to leave the house when I’m sick and high levels of stress is one of my big triggers. I’m starting to realize that music is probably no longer realistic for me and I need a job that is largely remote and provides good healthcare benefits.

I took a Java class and taught myself html and css in high school. I’ve been reteaching myself and genuinely enjoying what I’ve done so far. I live right near a state and community college and I’ve also been looking into boot camps and self study. My biggest worry is the cost of going back to school. I have some money saved up and live at home but my parents can’t afford to give me anymore help with tuition. I’m also not sure that I could get into a stem program. I haven’t taken a math or science class since my senior year of high school.

If anyone has advice or has been through something similar l would love to hear it. I feel a bit foolish for studying music and not doing something practical and I don’t want to waste more time and money.

Pursuing a Career in Medicine with an Economics Degree - Possible Routes and International Options

Hey everyone,

I wanted to share an interesting question I've been pondering lately. I'm currently studying economics in high school, and our curriculum is quite focused on the basics of economics, including terms, theories, and some simple math. However, this curriculum removes subjects like biology and physics.

Now, my passion lies in therapy, and I've always dreamed of becoming a therapist or a doctor specializing in therapy, somewhat like Dr. Isiah Friedlander from GTA V. I know it's an unconventional path, but I'm determined to make it happen. I've heard that some countries have unique admission policies for medical schools, which might consider applicants from diverse academic backgrounds.

I'm wondering if anyone here has insights into whether it's possible to enter a medical school anywhere in the world with an economics degree? Additionally, I've heard rumors about countries like Russia, Cuba, and Senegal accepting students with different educational backgrounds. If anyone has information or experiences related to this, please share. I'd greatly appreciate it.

Moreover, if you have any suggestions, tips, or advice on how I can prepare myself for such a transition, I'm all ears. I'm truly passionate about therapy and want to find a way to pursue my dream, even if it means taking a less traditional path.

Looking forward to hearing from you all and thanks in advance for your help!

Would You Teach Again?

Why does it seem like most of the teachers on here don't like teaching or discourage other people from becoming teachers? Those of you who are teachers, are there any specific reasons you would not want to become a teacher again if you had to redo your life?

I made a post the other day about switching from Engineering to teaching High School and a lot of people said that was dumb to do. (I understand where they are coming from too). Just curious on why there seems to be so much discouragement for the profession.

Just thought I'd try to see what some of the cons may be to teaching in case I ever do make the transition.

What do we think children are?

https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2023-09-08/orange-unified-approves-parent-notification-child-transgender?utm_source=reddit.com

This article is an excellent example of how badly we have lost our way. Children are humans in a state of becoming and a 1st grader is at a totally different stage than an 11th grader yet we want to believe they are the same, child not adult, as if it were binary. As if any of it were binary.

The right rejects face masks which protect against the spread of disease but demands social masks contorting children into shapes made in minds from the before times. Into bullet-proof closets filled with blank history books behind teachers with guns to shield them from a world their parents don't like but actually exists.

The mistakes of the left pale in comparison to the right but we do lean into obedience over care too often, into learning how to comply over learning how to be positive agents in their own lives.

It is an inescapeble truth that if we want what our children to be happy and healthy in the world that we built they must be capable of undoing what we have done. Good news is, these are the children that broke the gender binary. They are capable in maybe exactly the way the world requires them to be.

The question is will education help them build their capabilities or will we be just another hurdle in their way.

ADHD and Grades

I'm a mom of an ADHD teenager. His grades were always good until tenth grade. Now, they are bad with even some D's. His scores on state tests in those same subjects are outstanding, better than the school, district, or even state scores. They are very good. I'm glad that his scores are good. His school grades mostly reflect homework being turned in late or some misunderstandings about the rubric or rules of the assignment. How do I effectively navigate the school system so that his grades better represent his real knowledge of the subject or do I just give up and try to teach him about deadlines and rubrics? I don't know what to do and it is happening again in 11th grade. It seems weird to me that he could get a C in AP Biology at school and score above the entire state in the same subject. Or, a D in Math and a score above the entire state in the same subject. Advice, please?

What's a truly meaningful piece of advice you shared with your students? It can be said in class, or written down.

I'll share one of mine that I wrote to my students:

"PASSION: Find something you love to do. Put a ton of time into it. Make it your own. Surround yourself with other passionate people, who will genuinely believe in you and will tell you what you NEED to hear in order to make you better. (*It is difficult to find people like that, but they are super valuable and they can change your life. When the rest of the world is trying to pull you away from success, they will be the ones to push you towards it. Those people don’t come around often, so hold on to them when they do.*) Passionate people are capable of amazing things. They are dedicated, motivated, and authentic. Let your passion guide you."

Engineer to Teacher?

I am a civil engineering student who graduates next May. I do not enjoy my major all that much. I have had several internships, and it seems like I hate each one more and more. The thought of teaching high school math has been on my mind a lot lately, and I've really been tossing this idea back and forth.

I have a couple questions. What would it take for me to be qualified to teach and how long would it take me to get there? Would I need to get a masters? I live in Ohio by the way. I have researched some things, but I was getting sort of confused. I haven’t looked all that deep into it yet, but teaching has always sounded fun to me, and I enjoy math. I figured some of you may be able to help me understand what I would have to do, or maybe tell me I’m insane lol.

In case you are wondering what kept me in my major so long is that I really like my minor in Land Surveying. With this minor, I am able to sit for my P.S. license which is pretty awesome. I guess I'm just wondering if teaching is something that could be on my radar in the future if things don't work out.

I am definitely going to finish my engineering degree just to keep options open.

Can anyone recommend a website to study postgraduate interview questions on scientific topics

Hi, I've made my masters on electronics and currently planing to do my doctorate on communication but I don't think I have enough proficiency yet. I also may worry unnecessarily but I don't want to take chances if you could share any place I could learn what they expect for me to know or some source that teaches generally, I already have a great knowledge of things on the topic so it doesn't have to be too much detailed. I appreciate every help and thanks beforehand.

Schools have always been the site of struggle

‘Schools Have Always Been the Site of Struggle’ - FAIR

The preceding link is a collection of three CounterSpin interviews conducted between 2014 and 2020 with Alfie Kohn (author of The Myth of the Spoiled Child), education historian Diane Ravitch (author of Slaying Goliath), and Kevin Kumashiro (author of Bad Teacher: How Blaming Teachers Distorts the Bigger Picture). Their common thread is a focus on the effects of conventional attitudes (and policy) on students, and consequently on society as a whole.

Kohn discusses reactions against perceptions that kids "aren't tough enough," etc. In particular, he suggests that this attitude is independent of politics:

The right wingers and the liberals both had the same complaints.

And he goes on to explain how this take is both incorrect and insidious.

Ravitch discusses the way that powerful "philanthropic" interests seek specifically to reduce the cost of public education, which in practice means removing the most valuable part of public education—teachers:

I refer to Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg, and all these tech titans, and Wall Street and on and on, as “disruptors.” They have lots of ideas about how to reinvent and reimagine American education. It always involves privatization. It always attacks public control, and democratic control, of schools.

Ravitch and Janine Jackson also briefly discuss the role of media in that state of affairs. Something that goes unsaid here is how much money the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation gives to essentially every major media corporation, and how that money affects their reporting. (Even today, it can be difficult to find reporting critical of Gates; this can be partly explained by actual spending on public relations, but philanthropic activities have much the same effect.)

The interview with Kumashiro begins with a discussion of societal priorities—i.e., for what purpose do we allocate public funds to education in the first place?

[...] right now, the debate seems to be, how do we make education more affordable?—as if education is a commodity, where those who have the wealth can afford to buy the best.

And what I would say is, “Yeah, we could engage in that debate, but maybe the bigger debate is, should education be seen and treated as a commodity in the first place?” Right?

Education, I think many of us would argue, is so fundamentally important, not only to individual wellness and livelihood and success, but also to the health and well-being of the community and the society, right? It strengthens democracy, it strengthens participation, social relations, global health.
