So I just officially finished my masters in music. I’ve basically been out of school for over a year and it’s been hard. During my undergrad I developed an unknown neurological disorder that only got diagnosed recently. I was doing a better with treatment but then I got covid and I’ve been knocked back to square one. The condition I have makes it hard to leave the house when I’m sick and high levels of stress is one of my big triggers. I’m starting to realize that music is probably no longer realistic for me and I need a job that is largely remote and provides good healthcare benefits.
I took a Java class and taught myself html and css in high school. I’ve been reteaching myself and genuinely enjoying what I’ve done so far. I live right near a state and community college and I’ve also been looking into boot camps and self study. My biggest worry is the cost of going back to school. I have some money saved up and live at home but my parents can’t afford to give me anymore help with tuition. I’m also not sure that I could get into a stem program. I haven’t taken a math or science class since my senior year of high school.
If anyone has advice or has been through something similar l would love to hear it. I feel a bit foolish for studying music and not doing something practical and I don’t want to waste more time and money.
