History of Critical Thinking as a core class in High School.

When I was in junior college (California) my critical thinking teacher said critical thinking used to be a core class in high school. It was removed because it became watered down when it was combined with morality and ethics classes, that it was bastardized, turned into something it wasn’t. That’s why it was removed as a core class. I’ve looked all over the Internet and haven’t been able to find the history of high school core curriculum. Was critical thinking a required class for all students in the past 100 years?
