I have this mentor that was assigned to me by the district. In my state we have the ability to finish up our license classes while we are initially teaching. That said, I ace every class. I have been teaching for a year and am doing well on evaluations.
Apparently this program goes on for three years. I feel frustrated because I think I’m learning well, my kids are doing great, and I’m even being requested by parents for next years’ classes.
This mentor does not want to listen to me, and insists that she’s here to support me while she continues to insist she knows what’s best about what I’m doing. I have a learning disorder and it makes me a better teacher, but she doesn’t want to explain things in a way I will understand. She’s also not consistently in my classroom anymore, so she’s just making conclusions about what I’m doing right/wrong based on her perception of what a good teacher is.
She doesn’t have a say in my evaluations, but my bosses are referring to her to make decisions about how I’m mentored.
Has anyone else had to deal with this? Do you have any advice for dealing with a situation like this?
