I am almost done with my degree in special education. I also work at a therapy center that offers various forms of therapy for kids with disabilities. I keep thinking about how beneficial academic therapy could be for students. It wouldn’t be like tutoring as it may sound. It is focused on helping students build skills and positive associations with academic subjects and settings. For instance, if a student struggles with math and gets very stressed or overwhelmed with it easily at school, the student could work on that and getting more confident and comfortable with math in a therapy program that teaches them new tools and ways to approach and think about math. I have not seen a place that offers this kind of service around me. I’d love to practice it one day in schools, at a therapy center, or privately. Is this a growing field possibly? Does anyone here have an experience with it? I would love to hear your thoughts on this.
