Looking for general thoughts on Standardized Tests

Hello Everyone,

I am currently doing my MED and I am writing a research paper on standardized testing in public schools. I wanted to get some general impressions. Do you think they are effective? Accurate? A necessary evil? Is there a difference between how students used to take tests compared to students nowadays?

Any and all opinions are welcome, whether you are a teacher, parent, student, or just someone interested in education in general. I only ask that comments are kept civil and respectful. I have a section in my paper dedicated to general opinions on standardized testing, and while I can pull from newspaper articles, journals, blogs, etc, I thought the Reddit community would also have some great insights!
