Hello all!
I'm planning on doing a deep dive into the history of education / the education theories with my 10th graders this year. I'm pulling from memories of a sociology of education class that I took like... 10 years ago? and I'm having a hard time finding actual sources to back up the things I remember. I don't want to spread false information, so I want to make sure that the things I'm talking about with them are, y'know, actually real.
Trying to find sources on:
- the idea that schools in different communities prepare kids for different realities, based on how much control and creativity students are allowed to have, e.i. "factory" model in low-income communities, a little bit of creative thinking encouraged in middle class communities, full-range in wealthy communities
- the idea that degree inflation exists because as people retire later, the next generations' entry into the work force needs to be delayed longer
Thanks y'all!
