Changing school start times is not to help students...

It is to make truancy numbers drop. This year, at my urban High School, we are experiencing an agregious amount of absences. There are students that have missed 1/3 or more of the school year. Instead of working on the root causes of truancy, administrators want to work school around students. I believe this is yet another way to not hold students and families accountable. After all, didn't low income families complain about how far behind their kids were during remote learning? So, why would parents continue to allow students to "skip" school during in person learning? Again. Bad, lazy, apathetic Parenting and/or other family drama are, in my opinion, the root causes of most truancy issues. Changing school start times won't fix dysfunctional homes.
