Can you be kicked out of High school for bad grades? (CA, 9 years ago, public school)

When I was in 11th grade I was behind around 100 credits.

I got called up to an office, I can’t remember the full conversation but basically they said I’d have to go to a charter school.

I asked my mom and said do I really have to go? Is the school demanding it? I already knew I wasn’t graduating and wanted to spend the last of my time with friends, preferably.

She said that basically the school was transferring me and I couldn’t stay.

I can’t remember the whole conversation but basically i didn’t want to leave, mom maybe didn’t know her options, and I always thought the school kicked me out.

My mom doesn’t really remember exactly what happened but she just said they she never even checked me out.

I’m just curious if I really had that option. btw if anyone cares no I didn’t complete charter.
