School work while sick

Hello, not sure if this is the place for this but I’d really like to know the answer!

So, I’ve been out sick from school for the past few days with stomach sickness and covid. My teacher tells me I must have my assignment completed by tomorrow or else it will not be accepted. I was in so much pain that I couldn’t even watch TV or sleep, let alone complete an assignment. I just don’t think I should be punished for being very sick.

Am I obligated to complete school work when absent due to illness?

I am in Highschool for reference, thanks!
