I live in the inner-city and out of the schools in my area the average percent proficiency in reading and math are 39% and 45%, respectively.
I do not have children but I would hesitate to send my children to the public schools in my area due to their low levels of academic achievement.
I often wonder if these students will ever be college ready and if the public school system in my city should invest more in vocational programs and “career centers” instead.
Is there a future for vocational programs in inner-city public school? I have seen them rarely implemented. Why is that?
