I know there is a lot of talk about debt forgiveness, but what's the point of getting debt and getting it forgiven if the degree you eventually get is worthless. If you do that you're basically just wasting your time even if it is forgiven. You give up years of your life for exactly no gain.
Isn't it obvious the higher education system is collapsing? You know universities have giant debts too.
They borrow huge sums of money to fund nice amenities for their customers; student unions, nice landscaping, dorms on top of the debt-funding they get from the federal government. But if people aren't physically going to schools those investments are useless.
The only way they can pay this debt off is charging students huge tuitions. But enrollment has fallen like 20 or more percent since the virus hit. And if they can't reach the attendance levels they had projected from last year and can't charge them the price they'd already calculated they won't be able to pay these huge debts and will go bankrupt and probably close down.
Students are already demanding cuts in tuition so they'll probably never reach their revenue targets.
