It seems to me that we could be doing more to allow for organic learning experiences if our classrooms and curriculums were not so rigid. Why do we only teach science in one class and history in another?
We could teach more history and culture through the lens of art. We could explore scientific concepts by examining them in a historical context and understanding how they build on one another. We could use cooking and baking to introduce some basics chemistry concepts or we could get out into a garden to talk about photosynthesis or nutrition and anatomy.
I’m interested in learning about styles of teaching / education that incorporate some of these ideas. Are there educational models in this vein or based around the collective interdisciplinary knowledge of the teaching staff and the development of a curriculum that best utilizes the teachers’ interests / knowledge / strengths?
Any reading recommendations would be much appreciated!
