What supports do students at four-year colleges receive and which are most effective?

A lot of research that gets mentioned in the popular press and in academia focuses on how students of color (especially Black, Hispanic, and Native American students) lag behind academic and postgraduate outcomes compared to their White (and Asian) counterparts. These gaps persist despite every student having access to the same support services (e.g., academic supports, career services/counselors, etc.).

Is there any research on racial differences in support service use at universities? Furthermore, do researchers know which support services are most effective or associated with the best outcomes for students generally and students of color specifically?

When I refer to support services, I am thinking about 1) career counselors/centers that help students prepare for the job market during their senior year and help them acquire internships in prior years; 2) programs like TRIO but for the job market instead of graduate school preparation; and 3) affinity groups like multicultural services or organizations.
