A Better Writing Curriculum

In 2021, almost 60 percent of incoming U.S. college freshmen were required to take a remedial course in writing for no credit.

"Three-quarters of both 12th and 8th graders lack proficiency in writing"Why Kids Can't Write"

I'm developing a better writing curriculum and I want to know if any teachers on Reddit would be interested in discussing it more or if you might be interested in taking a look at what it could offer you and your students. I also want to know what are your struggles in your writing instruction.

My writing curriculum teaches students the power of the english language. It teaches students the different qualities of words and the myriad ways words can be combined to create sentences to achieve effects. The plan is to teach students how to write with power and precision.

I taught this curriculum to 150 8th graders for one semester. At the end of the year, my students could imitate the syntax and style of any professional writer they chose, in any field – from business to sports writing, to fiction. They learned the way professional writers practice their craft. They learned to practice through play, which is the most effective way to practice any skill.

I want to develop this program further and share it with others. Let me know if you're interested.
