Contractor substitute teacher (1099) pay structure and quantum (how do contractor subs get paid and how much?)

I'm aware most subs are W-2 but for the subs that work in >=2 districts and have to be paid as contractors, how is pay structured and at what quantum?

E.g., "pay is per class, at $25 per class" or "pay is per day, at $50 per day" or "pay is per class, at $25 per class, plus $12.50 hourly billed for prep / grading work done outside class" (or whatever it may be).

Does that make sense? Would appreciate any thoughts. I'm looking at "staffing / substitute" companies (out of interest) like Swing Education or Elevate K-12 and curious how they work. I'm trying to figure out if they rip off teachers or are a good deal (and will report back what I find if anyone is interested).
